HELP! I'M NEW AT THIS! Not pumping enough & back in school!

I'm 3 wks PP & I need some advice on how I can manage to pump and feed from the breast at the same time. It seems every time I pump she gets hungry and I have no bm left, but I need to pump for when I attend school during the nights.

What's an efficient way to pump & save bm and start a decent sized storage of milk?

I would pump off one reast while bf off the other, especially in the am when breasts are fullest.

Just an idea though, since your baby is a newborn, I have seen lately lots of moms bringing them to class, with no objection from professors. Maybe you can approach your professor, and ask them. If they object give them a copy of the innocenti declaration and ask them to respect it. You never know, it may work

HI Jazzy!

When I had to pump to return to work part time w/ DS1, I started preparing my body a few weeks beforehand.

For instance, I knew I'd be out of the house from 7am-12am. So the couple of weeks beforehand, while I was still home, I'd pump at 9:30am. Within a few days, my body would actually start producing more milk at this time of the day. When I went to work, I'd start feeling a let-down, and like clockwork, I'd look at the time and it was "time to pump"

I have noticed that in the beginning of pumping, there is less milk for the babe, so I would nurse her right before "the time you'd pump during school", and your body will catch up.

How is pumping going?

I hope you've caught up. When I used to pump more, when I got up in the morning one breast would be more full than the other. I would pump that breast first for about 5 minutes, and then I would do the same on the breast that was not as full. When my baby wanted to nurse, I would give her the first breast that had been more full. Babies are much better at getting milk from breasts than pumps are, and she would definitely still get milk. Sometimes I would also pump one breast and then wait an hour or two to pump the other breast to give it some time to fill up.

Good luck, and keep it up! Breastmilk is the BEST thing for your babe!

Check out the low supply tips at the low supply stick at the top of the forum, there is some good pumping info too.
