getting out stains on toddler clothes (x-posted in Toddler)

I must admit, I consider myself a bit of a laundry mistress So I am baffled that my toddler is kicking my butt w/ stains I just can't get out!

On light colored clothes, I'm all about the OxyClean, but I've had it cause bleach-like spots on darker clothes & won't use it for them now. So for colored clothes that need more than soaking in detergent, what do y'all use?

I know to wash blood on cold, etc. Am looking for some more general guidance (think dirty knees, bottoms of pants that are a little too long, etc).

Thanks mamas! :

There's no such thing as "general guidance" about stains. It depends on the specific stain.

We use the Ecover brand liquid stain remover, or squirt Charlie's liquid right on the stain and let it sit.

Oxyclean shouldn't cause spots if you let it dissolve totally in the water before adding clothes.

A good quailty oxygen bleach is necessary.

Oxyclean has a lot of fillers in it.

I have found over the years that the water makes the biggest differance in getting stains out. I know that sounds weird but after moving and not being able to get the stains out like I normally do I realized I needed to change my methods in removal.

How do you know what is a good quality oxygen bleach? I've heard so many mamas in love with Oxyclean here. Is there another one to try?

I have the same problem. Thanks for asking this!

I tried Bac Out by Biokleen and hated it. It didn't do ANYTHING but lighten the clothes in the spots I used it on.

Natural Choices is good. OxyBoost is what I buy.

Have taken to buying sodium percarbonate from The Chemistry Store however as its cheaper than oxygen bleach from Natural Choices.

Not for everything. The iron in a ferrous (Fe++) iron supplement is invisible, but when oxidized by a bleach can turn a rusty ferric red (Fe+3).
