sad about weaning

Hi! I wasn't sure where to post this...but I want some sympathy from somewhere, still. I also might post this in BF challenges.
I nursed my DD until she was just past 3, after an attempted wean at 2 I realized I wanted to nurse her as long as she needed. I still sort of weaned her at night so I am not sure it qualifies as CLW, but she was definitely OK with the shift to cuddling my "cheechees"
So, 10 yrs later I am happily nursing my 2 1/2 yr old DS, who is my only other and last child for a number of medical reasons. Well my hopes of nursing for even longer with this monkey did not work out. He fell up a set of stairs and broke off his front 4 teeth at the gum line. Because I live where the nearest pediatric dentist is over 4 hours away, it was a pretty epic and traumatic 3 days of a sad hurting boy who could not nurse at all because of a massive split lip and exposed nerves in the broken teeth. After we had to have those 4 teeth pulled he was sore for another 2 weeks and he decided he was big now and didn't want to nurse. I tried to get him to nurse, or really I just kept offering.
Well, now its 3 months later and I just still feel a little sad I will never have a nursling again. Maybe when I am a grandma someday I will get to watch my babies nursing their babies....

SO sorry mama. My DS is 2yrs 4 mos and shows no signs of weaning yet...but I have SUCH mixed feelings about the day he decides he doesn't want to nurse anymore. You can take comfort in the fact that your DS chose not to nurse on his own, yes there were circumstances surrounding it, but his weaning was not "caused" by you. You did what you could do under the circumstances and still made it to 2 1/2 years!!!!! That is a HUGE accomplishment! Know that you gave your DS the absolute best possible start.
