Adorable E-mail...had to share.

A VERY close friend of mine and ex-bf sent me this email in hearing of my choice to hs dd#2. He has been near and dear in my life since LONG before dd#1 was born (he practically helped me raise her for several years... she was also hs'd). He has always been an inspiration to me in many ways, especially when it came to bucking the system and following artistic and creative dreams... I thought it was a hilarious addition to my day, and certainly helped put even MORE into perspective... HAD TO SHARE.

Dear Phoenix-
yes, yes, that's all great. But are you forgetting about peer pressure? competition? communicable diseases? Boundless, inquisitive learning through direct experience is just super, but there ARE some things that have to be beaten into you. Do you have home cliques as well? How's she gonna know if she's cool, which sneakers to wear, which others to fear, ridicule or imitate? Are you confident in your ability to systematically break the will of your own child? I didn't get much from school either, but I did learn quite thoroughly how to be disappointed, think about it, I haven't. Bottom line, you're the parent, but I think you'd better be careful or you might just end up with another creative and/or free-thinker on your hands.~luv.

Man, can that guy be my friend? Please?! I told a very good college friend about homeschooling our kids a couple weeks ago (on the phone). He said in a worried voice, "So, um, how long do you plan to homeschool?" At which point my humor and confidence crumbled and I just kind of mumbled off into the corner and donned my "FREAK" hat. How nice if he would have been funny and supportive! How truly marvelous for you! Thanks for sharing. --Nancy

yeah, he's one of a kind, alright... and if there are any single mamas here... he's currently unattached...lol

I know that it's not often we get that kind of understanding, especially from someone that has no kids of their own. (he has none-but always loved them) I was hoping it would put a smile on a face or two.
