I got a bid for deep cleaning about two weeks before I broke my foot. The deepcleaning team came the very afternoon after my weekly maid service had left, and I thought the place was looking pretty good. The bid was $350, which is totally out of my league for housework. That did not include windows! So I shudder to think what it might be if they came now and saw it.
Well, I tackled one playroom today -- three hours later, I got it cleaned and vacuumed and the walls touched up with paint. I still have not laundered the sofa slipcover or separated the two huge bins of toys in that room, but having a clean, welcoming space has guided the children into that room.
Y'all were so right about having the playroom cleaned first. If I had realized how important it was, I would have done that the very first thing. Your brilliance was illustrated by the fact that during the time I was cleaning the playroom, the kids were messing up the living room that I cleaned yesterday. I can guide them into the playroom and just maintain that after I finish it.
My dh meant well, but he was packing lunches, cleaning, cooking, shopping, doing child care, laundering clothes, doing pet care, everything. He just didn't know what he was getting into, and he had none of the skills or motivation to accomplish the job. It would be a pretty big shock because he thought managing houses happened by magic and that you could do it easily, only to find himself totally overwhelmed and exasperated and exhausted.
: It's really kind of funny.
