Starting to pump at 10 months?

Thread Starter
I have recently been offered a part time job that I really would like to take (and financially should take) however it will keep me away from my LO 2-3 half days each week (two night shifts 6-10 and one day shift 9-4).

I pumped a bit when DS was very young to stock up on milk (but then we moved long distance so I lost all my stock)...and I also haven't pumped since he was about 6 months old.

What is the best way to start pumping again? I nurse on demand...and DS doesn't really have a schedule...so I am not sure when to add in the pumping sessions or how often...

Any advice is appreciated!

TIA!

I have a 6 month old, and I just began pumping again too, we go in pumping spurts, just maybe pump a little bit before you feed your LO, a couple of days your supply should grow and you can bagin pumping more (?) That is what I do. Mine will NOT take a pacifier or baottle but I still pump and put in cereals and such

Good luck

At first, you will not see very much milk due to your bodys way of regulating. So you just have to pump. I would suggest pumping in the morning and in the evening. Start out with like 15-20 minutes then when you see milk pump maybe like 30 minutes... That is probably the amount of time that you will be pumping at work. I would say to build up stock a long time ahead so that you don't feel the milk crunch.

It can depend on the person. You'll find out what works best for you.

You might consider pumping one side in the morning while the LO is feeding off the other side. I tend to get a full bottle that way.

Is your LO sleeping all night? If so, you can set your alarm and pump once at night (I usually do sometime between 1 and 2).
