Getting fabric softener out?

My friend gave me a whole slew of clothes for my boys. But they smell like fabric softener. Any hints for getting it out (she's given me some before without this problem). I've washed them, washed them with 1 cup vinegar added (which then made them smell like fabric softener and vinegar...), washed with sensiclean, washed over and over and over. Still strong. Anything else I can try?

Wash with your normal detergent, put 1 cup vinegar in the rinse. Hang to dry, preferrably outside. Sometimes takes me 2 or 3 washes to get the smell out.
