I wrote last week about my frustration with finding a really tough cleaning but aunaturel cleaner for my bathroom and a mama suggested making a paste w/baking soda, vinegar and a few drops of dish soap. Hallejeliuh, It's awesome, I didn't even need to scrub!

Awesome!

Just wanted to add that we did the same thing on the toilets -- one bleach (post-flu, sorry) and one vinegar/baking soda. A little more elbow grease, but the SAME result! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!

Do you think this would work for that horrible ring in my toilet bowl? I swear nothing we do seems to touch it. Yuck!!

Try the same thing without the vinegar. Vinegar & baking soda react on contact to fizz, and that fizz is gone in seconds, so I don't see how making a paste of it would do anything but effectively reduce the amount of baking soda in the paste.

You could also try the same thing with the vinegar but without the baking soda. It won't make a paste.

Ummm...I don't really know what you're talking about. The baking soda did not fizz completely away, but I didn't use a ton of vinegar either, I had a nice little paste going, granted it could have been just baking soda & soap. By my way of thinking. It rocked out the bath tub and I'm thrilled

It doesn't fizz "away", but the vinegar is using up some of the baking soda, and the baking soda is using up all of the vinegar, and the fizz goes away in seconds if you're mixing it into a paste. So adding vinegar accomplishes nothing for what you're doing, and in fact neutralizes part of one ingredient, so you could simply use less baking soda to get the same effect if you weren't adding vinegar.

I use something similar (it might have been my suggestion??) but I just use dish soap and baking soda. It seems that vinegar would add some disinfecting properties to the mix- maybe I'll try that out next time!

I'm glad it worked out for you! I was absolutely amazed when I used it on my tub- it was easier than using Comet!

If the ring is build up of minerals with hard water, then use cola. I saw it on my fav. British cleaning show. They poured it in the toilet around the rim and let it work. They didn't even scrub! Good for toilets, but not so good for our plumbing! LOL!

You could also try a pumice stone.

Robert Goodman, have you tried it?? I've used baking soda and dish soap to clean my shower many times. Yesterday, I tried adding a small amount of vinegar and then IMMEDIATELY applying the mixture (with a washcloth) to the tile and rubbing it into the grout. It worked much better than without the vinegar--got the tile really clean with only light rubbing, and bubbled mildew off of the grout.

I can't explain the chemistry behind it, but it worked much better with vinegar than without.

This is just the kind of info I was looking for today. Thanks!

I've got to try this. I've been using the 50/50 vinegar and water with orange EO and LOVE it
