different name dilemma

OK since I'm still waiting for baby -- how would you feel about this?

DS (obviously) is Liam. I never thought about it being related to William, which is DH's bro's name, I just liked it, but DH liked it also for the connection to his bro. OK.

DH's sister got married last year, to a William who goes by Bill. She is having a boy in Dec. Her DH wants to name it after himself, and call him Will (which is what BIL goes by, incidently).

I think they need to find another name. I haven't said so outright, as it's not my place, it's their kid, it's her DH's name, and they are going to do what they want. But seriously, in one very small family, Will, Bill, Liam and Will??? There is NO other name??? (BTW, the DH wants to give it his bro's name for a mn, which also happens to be the same as BIL's mn...)

Am I crazy for thinking this is too much? (I'm also biased as I personally don't care for Juniors...)

TIA

I don't know. Liam is on our list of names too, but BECAUSE it is a variation on a family name, on both sides. DD's middle name is a variation on Mary, which is also very common on both sides of the family. I like the idea of giving the kids ties like that to both, for some reason.

BIL is William, goes by William to family and Bill to friends.
I have an uncle Bill and a cousin Billy as well.

I'd definitely go with Liam over making this baby a Mason the 5th if it's a boy -- which was one of DH's suggestions. I don't mind the Jr thing so much (my dad is a 3rd, DH is a 4th), but it gets really confusing when several generations are still alive and kickin'.

On my dad's side of the family there are 5 Davids and 4 Donalds (this includes children and adults). It is getting old I tell ya!

Well, since you are correct in that you really can't tell someone what they should(or shouldn't name) their kid, try to look at light heartedly. It's kind of amusing if you do. Having a Will, Liam, Bill, Billy, and William in the family will be a great source of laughs at family get-togethers! It's like that scene in Goodfellas at the wedding, where all the nephews are named Paul, Paulie, or Peter and all the neices are named Marie...
