electric range top -what do I need to know? - Page 2

We didn't get a manual for ours when we bought the house a couple of months ago.I don't like it.The pots slide around too much and it takes forever to heat up and then bam! its hot!I've cooked on gas, coil and now this and I would rather have the others although gas would be best since I like to stir fry.
I would rather clean than have to deal with quirks in a stove when I'm trying to cook. The fact that it is smooth topped also encourages us to put bags and other no nos on it.

Our house also came with a glass top stove and I was a die-hard gas stove cook. It was probably the biggest "con" of our house for me. I've been using it for 6+ years. I liked it immediately. When it dies, I will consider switching to gas, but could see myself purchasing another glass top electric as well.

I am NOT an expert on the stove or what is most effective, safe, etc. But i use pans of all sizes on whatever burner fits it best. I have used glass pans, and regularly use cast iron (I was nervous at first about dropping one of them on the stove!). My cast iron does have fairly flat bottoms. We were gifted a Revereware pan with copper bottom and it does not work well on the stove. The bottom warps when heated & the pan vibrates back & forth. And it takes forever to heat up. All our other stainless steel & cast iron pans work fine. As for cleaning, I wipe it with a wet cloth each evening. Very occassionally I will use a razor blade to scrape off some gunk and use a small dab of the cleaner to really give it a deep clean. Maybe once every couple months. It's nice that you can set platters, hot pans, etc. on the cool stove and not have to worry about the burners being in the way. Dh has forgotten a couple times and set things on hot burners, though, so you need to watch out for that. That's about all that comes to mind now.
