My own perfume with jojoba and EOs??

Okay I'm checking out a website with some organic perfume, and while there are super co-op prices for it available to me, and the packaging is oh so pretty and the descriptions tempting, the ingredients are just a few basic EOs and jojoba oil. I can do that, right?

Do I just get an atomizer through frontier, or little oil bottle cap through?
Can I put the EOs (in jojoba) right on my skin? How many drops of EO should I use?

Any ideas?? Thanks!

Yes you can do that!!!

For perfume you can use a stronger mix than you would for a massage oil - say about 5%, which amounts to 100 drops total EO in 100ml carrier, 50 drops in 50ml etc.

Blending can go wrong so perhaps for first experiments keep to a couple of oils (or follow a recipe), if you take the EO bottles together an just give the a waft under your nose, you´ll get an idea of whether it will work.

Add the oils gradually, keeping a note of how much of each you have used so that you can recreate your signature scent!

Enjoy! Do you have an particular favourites you´d like to use? Perhaps I can suggest some good combinations.

oh please do suggest!! I don't have a million essential oils but have several and wouldn't mind getting more, especially for ones that are good for skin care as well. Or if there's a link...I was going to copy one of the simpler ones that was geranium rose and lavender and not much else I don't think. I tend to love citrus-y scents as well.

I just realized that an atomizer wouldn't work with jojoba, duh, but I'd be happy to have a little bottle and just dab it on.

Although, do you know what I'd do if I did want to use an atomizer spray?

Or, I'm wondering if there are little roll-on empty perfume bottles you can find that have a screw on cap for filling up. Haven't googled it yet though...

Rose, geranium and lavender will be yummy, both geranium and lavender are quite strong so you might want to use a little more rose in that blend.

For my preference, I like to blend floral oils with wood oils, I think they balance eachother out. I also like citrus with spice notes - think of the smell of cinnamon and orange at christmas, mmmmmmm. Though spice oils are quite potent and can cause sensitivity, so go very easy on them.

I´m not a perfume maker but I think that it is more regular to put the EOs into alcohol for perfume, i believe it acts as a fixative making the scent last longer. Whatever you chose to use, try to store your perfume in dark glass bottle (blue or black for preference) and out of the light. Mix up no more than you expect to use in 6 months.

You may get away with the jojoba oil in a spray, I noticed the other day that my local health store sells it in a spray bottle, it probably works because it is one of the lighter oils. And for sure you can buy those perfume roll on bottles, usually from companies that sell soap-making stuff.

Ooh this is something I've been planning to do more or less and haven't gotten around to.

The alcohol people usually use for perfumes is vodka, so I've heard, I think it is one of the purest. I have come across a few blogs about perfume making.

What EOs do you have? It'd be fun to think up blends. I adore citrus too. One day I put on a combination of green mandarin and rose, loved that.

So far I just have peppermint, lavender, geranium rose, and citurs. Though I plan to order more from frontier. Just not sure which ones- I suppose I should read up a little. This could be fun and a little addictive.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but was wondering if i could use Sweet almond oil as a carrier oil for the Eo's????

Yes, you can It's a little thicker than jojoba, but not too much.

Now there's a thought. Can I melt some raw, unrefined shea butter, add eo, and then let it solidify?

brambleberry online has some roll on applicators. Has anyone every ordered from them? They're shipping is expensive. They're only like 10ml, so if how many drops should I add? When I'm done with it will I have trouble cleaning out the scent to start fresh?

Hazelnut, offhand I don't know how many drops of EO you should add...

in general the scent will not stick to glass, but it will stick to plastic.

For 5% use drops/ml, therefore 10ml is equal to 10 drops. but remember this is maximum and not obligatory! Hence why I say to add the drops gradually, in this case one at a time.

NEVER use plastic for storing EOs, they will leach nasty stuff from the plastic. A long time ago I tried measuring out some neat mandarin EO with a plastic syringe, the syringe virtually disintegrated!

Thanks. Is there some reason besides noncreativity that I can't just add a single EO into jojoba? Haven't tried it yet. Maybe it will be too rosey. I have some really good rose eo from bulgaria or somewhere that my mom got from a friend. It's supposedly stronger and only requires a couple drops, but maybe they just said that.

What else goes nicely with citrus, so I don't smell entirely of oranges.

I have my rollers ready to roll. I read somewhere online that rollers are less sanitary, cuz you're rolling it on and then rolling it right back into the bottle, but I'm not too worried. Just made me wonder.

Okay stoopid question. Are EOs too strong to just dab onto your skin by themselves? I never really have before, but then I've mostly used them for aromatherapy with a diffuser and not in any skincare, except for tto which I diluted slightly.

Citrus goes well with almost everything. Florals, woodsies, spice oils, earthy base oils, other citruses. Lemon goes with pine & evergreen type eos, while orange and most other citruses will go better with the spices and earthy oils. All citruses will generally go well with florals (esp rose).

It's best to match just two at a time at first, so you know what you're getting into. Smell one from the bottle or rubbed onto something, briefly, then smell the other... see if you think they will go together that way.

Rollers should be fine, I guess don't use it when you're really smelly or something?

In most cases it is better not to applly EOs directly onto your skin undiluted. With some (esp lavender) it's fine, but overall best to dilute first. Not a stupid question!

I love the idea of making your own.

I just bought a 'simple' from my local herb store that is exactly what you describe - rose oil with jojoba oil in a little glass roll on container. I had intended to just buy rose oil but was shocked by the cost so I got this instead. It is very nice! I'd love to make some others.

I love rose with vanilla or sandalwood. Even all three are nice together. Those are my favorite EOs - and lavender too but I tend to use that one solo.

Brambleberry sent me a sampler (actually it seems kinda big to me) of vanilla/sandalwood and it is yummy. I remember wearing just vanilla in college (from teh body shop) and people always asked if I had been baking. I was so glamorous. Anyway, I love lavender and rose too.

I just made my own body mist yesterday! I love it!

In a 2 oz bottle, I just added a sandalwood blend, rose absolute and blood orange to some vodka. I think I used equal parts of each...I sort of lost count of the drops...10 or so (?) It's a sheer fragrance...and exactly what I hoped it would smell like.

I was also surprised by the cost of the rose oil. But I only used half of the 1/16 oz vial and it smells soooo pretty.

This is way addictive...I plan on making more.

Here's where I got my oils...the store is in my neighborhood, but you can order online www.chakra4herbs.com
