I have a horrible sore throat and can not swallow. Any suggestions on what to take/drink to make this better?

Oh man, so sorry to hear that. I have been battling that myself. I just drink hot tea but I am not sure if it does much other than just having something hot going down. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

Hope you get feeling better!

DS1 just had that,, ouch.. I always have great luck with oscillococcinum homeopathic.. but it never works for DH, it worked well for DS1 he was fine in under 2 days, that and a good old fashioned hot water, salt and baking soda gargle.. hope you feel better soon

Gargle with warm salt water. Microwave a small glass of water until it's just past lukewarm, then add enough salt to make the water cloudy and stir until it's dissolved. It actually works bc the bacteria absorb the salt and that kills them--it's not just an old wives' tale.

If it's severe pain, like it hurts to talk, Chloraseptic spray works well to numb it temporarily.

Zinc lonzenges are supposed to be good for sore throats. How about Emergen-C? I would try to get as much vitamin C as possible and definitely do the salt gargle thing.
Chicken soup?

Oh, and honey is supposed to be good, but most people say add lemon. When I was in speech class in high school and we would give competitive speeches, our teacher told us the lemon will IRRITATE the throat, not heal, so beware of acidic things.

I have emergen-c at home and was not sure if it was safe in pregnancy. I am glad to know that you can take it...thanks for the suggestion. I have heard the same thing with lemon possible causing irritation. I just hope to be better by Saturday as that is the day we are having our shower.
