serious congrats! My girl was 9 lbs 12 oz and pushing was much harder than her sister who was two pounds and two inches smaller. I think birthing in the tub made all the difference though!

You sooo are not kidding!! Before I hit transition, I just kept telling my husband, "Why do so many women NOT give birth in water?!?!? THIS ROCKS!!"

I meant to post much earlier but have been too interrupted by my own little one. I'm just totally in awe of mamas who birth 11lb'ers! I talked to a mama at the zoo the other day who was so happy she'd been induced because baby, "might have been 11lbs!" I told her, "I have a friend who's homebirthed 11lb'ers, so it's possible!" That friend had FOUR that were right at 11lbs and had huge heads, to boot. (We decided that makes a big difference! ) One of hers had a FIVE foot cord!

Anyhow, I'm just totally stoked to hear of your great birth with your big guy - proving once again how perfectly our bodies are designed for natural, normal birth! Way to go, mama!!

Thanks bunches!! It certainly is empowering to do something like that. The chicken in me, however, wonders if my resolve may have waivered had I known he would be sooo big! I am still so in awe of the body's natural abilities, too. My first birth was a typical hospital, with all of the bells and whistles. Without the epidural or the IV, I felt sooo much better! And moments after the birth, I realized how "stoned" I felt - no doubt the result of the body's natural pain relievers. It took a few days for the pain to kick in. Now I look back at my first birth and think, "What a sissy!" Oh well; I guess we never know our own strength until we're forced to tap into it.
