We're "practicing labor" tomorrow night--dropping the kids off for a date!

We haven't been on a date in at least a year. Our dear friends, who already have a two-year-old and a nine-month-old, have offered to watch our kids when we go into labor. And, they've offered to watch the kids and put them to bed at their house tomorrow night as a "trial run," since my girls have never slept anywhere without me before. (We'll come pick them up and take them home after they're sleeping.)

This means we go on a date! I'm a little overwhelmed at the thought. I mean, what do people do on dates anymore, anyways? We'll probably go eat somewhere semi-nice. And then I'll wish I was lying on the couch having my feet rubbed, or watching TV. I'm so boring.

sounds fun.

wish we could do that.

the kids will have fun too --

we are just waiting till the shoe dropps and gonna make due without dry runs.... i am afraid if the dry run doesn't go well I'll be TOO FREAKED when the real thing happnes .... soooooooooo we'll just go thought it once, praying we make it till my mom is here as she stands the best chance with him (vs our freind, and vs SIL and MIL) ...... it may be ugly, but at least it will only be ONCE, yk? if we did a test and it went bad then Theo and i would both be more freak when it was real and it might go worse..........

i would love a date night though

heck -- theo is having such a hard tiem going to bed, i'd love a movie alone on teh sofa with Scott and pop corn :

This is what I tell myself. Even if this trial run goes rough, the actual labor/birth stay for them will only be a night, max. Our birth center does 4 - 12 hour post-partum stays, and since I expect my labor to go fast, we could be in and out in six hours, potentially. So, they may not have to stay anywhere overnight. As you said, it's only one night...if my two-year-old cries for Mama all night (which will break my heart into teeny pieces!), it's only one night.

But I expect it to go well. My four-year-old is very excited, and my two-year-old likes this family. So we're thinking positively.

I wish I could give you all a date night, too! I know how excited I am for this one.

i didn't mean to freak you out -- it will be great,

just me justifying to myself not having a pratice run

Oh, you didn't freak me out, Aimee. I was just agreeing with you. I, too, though about avoiding a practice run, just to make sure we only went through it once! But, our friends really wanted to give it a go, and who am I to say no to free babysitting and a real date?

I don't know your taste in movies, but dh and I loved Michael Clayton.

We exchange babysitting with another couple, which is wonderful--an assured date night every other Tuesday night, without having to refinance the house to pay for a sitter.

We had a date night a couple weeks ago. It was nice to get out-we went to see a show at a club. It was great but I wish we had had time to go to dinner or coffee so we could have been in a less noisy environment to actually talk to each other!
