I have to make a one skein ...something.... for a chinese auction at the LYS where I teach. I'm looking for ideas - anyone have any?

That question has been asked before
http://www.knitlist.com/tools_resources/one_skein.htm

My personal favorites from that list is the water bottle bag and jewelry. Can you imagine a real intricate necklace and matching bracelet? I'm sure that would be very unique at the auction.

I just checked out of the library One Skein and Last-Minute Knitted Gifts. Both those had patterns that were terrific, my favorites being tiny knitted sweaters and stockings for ornaments. Little sachets to fill with cedar chips or dried herbs are fun. I made my 2 year old a pair of socks out of one skein. Hmmm... And there's always the set of washclothes done all in different stitch patterns. Baby hat and mittens-on-a-string combo. Calorimetry headband from knitty.com or the Drops headband. Knitted food.

I made a cabled hot water bottle with a lavender and lemonbalm sachet sewn in recently, and that's probably my favourite quick knit ever.

I'm working on the Mobius scarf/cowl that Cat Bordhi did on Knitty Gritty. On the show she used a skein of cashmere sport-weight. I don't do $35 a skein (hope to some day!). I'm using Malabrigo, and so far it's knitting up beautifully. It takes around 170 yards of sportweight, so even less if using a heavier yarn. The mobius cast-on was surprisingly easy, and it's so cool how the knitting grows between the needles.
