I bought a car mirror but I don't understand how it will help me see the baby if she's laying down facing away from me in the middle of the back seat. I haven't installed it yet, obviously. Should I put it on the rear windshield so I can triangulate or hang it from the rear view mirror like I'm supposed to?

Car mirror question

Does this
picture help?
I suggest using one like that (but much cheaper) and making sure it's firmly attached to the seat so it can't fly around in a crash and not using the kind the suction on to the windshield because they can fly in a crash and do no good for a rear facing baby. And you'll probably be able to see into that mirror fine with your rear view mirror.
Here's
another where you can see how they have it hooked on the top tether.

Are you saying you have the one that goes on the rear view mirror? If so, you need one that goes on the back of the seat where the baby is.
Ohhh I see. Yes I have the one that attaches to the rear view mirror but couldn't figure out what angle would actually let me see the baby!
So I need another one that goes on the back seat. Add that to the list!
Thanks!

How would a mirror like that attach to a middle seat (without a headrest)? I can't really figure out how that works in my mind. We had the suction cup kind back 4 years ago and it was terrible for 2 reasons...a) the suction didn't hold too well and b) it was very hard to find the right angle so you could see the baby, and when you finally did, it didn't hold very well, it would start to droop down after a short time. Definitely a waste of money, and not real safe (though I didn't know that at the time.)

If your car was made after Sept 2000 it will have a top tether anchor that you can hook it too. And if it's older than that, it probably has pre-drilled holes and you can usually have the dealer install the tether anchor kit for free. I know Chevy will do one for free as warranty work. (my vehicle is a 1998) And that way you're all set for when your DC goes forward facing. I drive a Suburban, so I just skip the mirror and do the touch test. You know reach back and feel their chests every 5 minutes

I love having our backseat mirror. I bought a second one for this baby bc I cannot imagine driving without one. I agree that for safety reasons you should get the kind that straps onto the headrest instead of using suction cups. I have this one:

Because it rotates, you can attach it to the headrest of a window seat if your center seat does not have one.

You can also use a big safety pin and pin it to the top of the seat.
