Pregnant with an IUD

I got an IUD at the beginning of the month. I hadn't had sex for 2 weeks beforehand. I had a pregnancy test before the IUD was put in.
I just found out I'm pregnant.
What do I do????
I'm NOT in the position to have another baby. Are there natural ways to induce a miscarriage? I hate thinking that way....but I've got a brand new baby at home....................
If there aren't natural ways to do this, what do I need to know about continuing this pregnancy? I literally JUST found out (less than an hour ago)....

I think you may need to go speak with your care provider as soon as possible. You will need to discuss your choices with them & your partner & go from there. I am sorry that you feel like you need to abort your baby. I will pray for you both.

Which kind of IUD, is it hormonal too? That may factor in the info would be helpful. You should definately have it removed before anything else. You have months for things to fall into place before this baby comes, remember that. As a major part of preparation for close in age, read info about breastfeeding while pregnant if you are BF.

Yes there are herb tinctures one can try to end pregnancy, under the care of a midwife preferably. But naturally inducing abortion can be almost as harsh on your body as other ways to do it, and it would be real abortion too, it should be no more a rash decision as those other medical methods. Hugs to you I'm sure this is rough, scarey, and shocking.

Blessings to you, mama. I trust you to know better than anyone else whether or not your family can accommodate one more right now. I myself can't imagine being pregnant only months after giving birth -- your little one still needs so much from you, and pregnancy takes so much... I am a health care worker in an abortion clinic, so feel free to PM me with any questions about medical or surgical abortion in the allopathic model. I totally agree that an herbal abortion should only be undertaken with the care of a wise woman skilled and experienced with such herbs, and with the willingness to seek medical help should the herbs not do their job. Honestly, many abortifaceint (sp?) herbs can be pretty darn toxic on the body, and IMHO an early surgical abortion done by a skilled doc can be much less physically traumatic. I'm going to stop here at the risk of violating the user agreement, but please do feel free to PM me if you need/want more information. Whatever you decide, it is the case that your IUD should be removed ASAP.

Trust your wisdom, mama. You have what you need to make this choice.

We've decided to keep our baby as part of our family. Unexpected or not--its a baby. ready or not....its not up to us.

I'm glad you seem to be at peace with it, even though it was unexpected. I can't imagine being pregnant right now. Good luck!

About the IUD, I have a hormone IUD in myself. When I got it in, I asked the doc what would happen if I got pregnant with the IUD in. He said that it would most likely have to be removed and the earlier the better. I would get in to see your OB/GYN ASAP. There's a chance of miscarriage, but it seems like he was saying the earlier it's done, the less chance there is.

Just spent 3.5 hours with my midwife team today. I am 6 weeks pregnant. I've had the IUD for 4. SO that means I was pregnant and it didn't show up
The IUD is MIA, so to speak. Its ABOVE the baby in my uterus, unable to be taken out. There is a 50% chance of miscarriage.
So now I'm "high risk" and have to see a special high risk ob for the first trimester but get to go back to the midwives after that.

i have seen moms deliver wiht IUD's and their babies seemed to be very healthy!

As an apprentice midwife I was an attendant at a birth of an "IUD" baby. When the baby was born he was holding the IUD in his hand. It was amazing. I wish I had a copy of the pictures his parents took.

congratulations on the new life within you! I know what it's like to have an unexpected pregnancy and have to get "used" to the idea. My first ended in ectopic, but my second and third are 5.5 and 4, and I can't imagine our lives without them!

My mother had two IUD pregnancies. One resulted in my brother. The doctor did not remove the IUD early in pregnancy, and it caused some complication or another during labor, but mom and baby were fine in the end. The second IUD pregnancy, my mom chose, because of the crisis during labor, to have the IUD removed early in pregnancy. That actually CAUSED a miscarriage. The doctors said, though, that if the removal causes a miscarriage, the pregnancy likely wasn't "seated" strongly to begin with. That was a long time ago, though.

I'll be looking for those "baby holding IUD" pictures in a few months!

I was just teetering on telling you that there's a high risk of miscarriage with an IUD when I read this. How unfortunate that you were pregnant when they put it in. I would be having a conversation with that OB.

If you believe this baby is really meant to be in your life- focus on it. Things always happen the way they should.

I'm confused. Are you 6 weeks pregnant in the typical usage (from last menstrual period), where you are really 4 weeks pregnant? Or are you 6 weeks pregnant as in, really 6 weeks from conception?
What instructions did you get after your IUD? Mine were nothing in the vagina for 4 weeks. Other providers give different instructions, though, I know. I'm just thinking that one way means you were preggers when it was inserted, and one means that you got pregnant 1-5 days after insertion.

How do you feel about ultrasound? If the strings are gone, it's possible it fell out and all your problems are solved. Although it seems improbable, many "lost" IUDs are not felt when they leave. An ultrasound would tell you for sure. And date your pregnancy for sure, if that's an issue.

Er anyhow... sorry you're going through that, and best of luck.
One of my sisters was an IUD baby ~ though I'm not sure how my mom managed... apparently it just stayed in and they removed it after birth -- there were never any serious complications, that I know of.

I had to have an ultrasound because they wanted to make sure the pregnancy wasn't ectopic (Sp?), which I guess is sometimes common with IUD pregnancies. I was pregnant for 2 weeks BEFORE the iud was put in, but it just didn't show up on the test. I'm due June 11, less than a month after my daughter's first birthday!
The ultrasound showed the IUD is above and to the left of the baby. They thought maybe they could reach it, but its too high up and would probably cause me to lose the baby anyway.
I have no special instructions for now. She said there isn't anything to do or not to do....I just have to wait and see.

I just had my first appt with the high risk doctor....... They did another ultrasound (both internal and external). The IUD has moved to right over my cervix. He is telling me I should remove it, with the risk of 50% miscarriage, or I can leave it. He scared the hell out of me with laying down the risks for that.... premature rupture of membranes (but still going full term and delivering a baby that will die) and preterm labor. He said there is a 20% chance for this. I told him I'd like to leave it in...but am questioning myself now!!!
Any advice?

Really? I have never heard that one.

I was told to use another method until my next period because I had mine inserted at ovulation time. Planned Parenthood site says:

You can resume sexual activity as soon as you like after insertion.

is there any way to get a second opinion? ime, high risk doctors tend to be a bit dramatic/overzealous
