ACK, MW out of town next week!

I am trying to be calm. I know that Midwives have lives outside of helping birth babies . I know I will probably NOT go into labor next week (I will be 37 weeks on Saturday).

In case I do go into labor or need anything, she has a back up CNM. I have never met her, but know she is much more medicalized than my MW.

I had an appointment on Wednesday and everything was fine. Blood pressure has been great all along, no swelling, measured 38 weeks, feel good, baby is moving plenty. I should start 1 week appointments now, but won't have my next appointment until October 30th. My MW said I could go see the back up CNM next week, but I really don't feel I need to. She said I should be fine without a check next week if I didn't want to go.

Four people called me today and said something about me having the baby next week out of nowhere! I am not talking to anyone besides DH and this baby for the next week or so.

I told this baby it must stay put at least until after next week!

How stressful! Sending good vibes your way to keep baby baking until your MW comes back!

I am sending you non-labour vibes. I know how you feel - last week we got a call to reschedule our appts twice because my MW had a 'family emergency'.

When I told DH that, he groaned because the timing was eerily similar to last pregnancy when at 37 weeks our care was terminated because our MW went on stress leave (turned out to be way more complicated than that but that's all we knew at the time). In fact he said "Oh no, not again..." which really panicked me.

However, as a first time mama, I'm guessing you will make it past this week no problem and your MW will come back to town and all will be well!

Talk to your baby and say how important it is to say warm and cozy right where s/he is for a little while longer.

Try to distract yourself with a project or a new book or something until your MW is back in town. That helps me not be so anxious about having the baby too early. I find if I'm lying around thinking about it, I get more nervous. But if I'm busy (but not doing too much!), the days go by more quickly.

I'm 37.5wks now and my MW is out of state at the BIG midwifery conference in FL right now. We discussed it at length and are pretty confident I won't go early, so her time away hasn't stressed me out. Keep going on w/ your daily life and think "stay put" thoughts. I'm a firm believer in the power of our thoughts, and if you stress out over going into labor while your MW is away, you probably will. But if you continue on w/ your life, thinking your baby will stay put and all will be fine, you'll be just fine

Sorry but my OB has been OT all week -- left Sunday, will be back Suinday -- all of my week 37

so it was just too close a compassion.

Every BH all week has kinda freaked me out -- i do not want to birth with the on-call person fromt eh BIG pratice that backs up my lone OB. so i know just how you feel.

I am still counting days till Sunday.

Thanks for the advice to keep my mind off of it. I am really not stressing about it that much. It just didn't help when a few people called out the blue yesterday!

I don't think I will go into labor early. I just don't want to end up birthing with the back up. It took me so long to find someone I was comfortable with and I can't imagine a stranger there at such a vulnerable, intimate time, kwim?
