Do black people even play paintball? - Page 2

Oh geez, the pure ignorance! But not completely surprising!
You know I have been in those types of situations.........I never can think of anything to say. I just stand there and look at the person with a "You are the stupid" look. They ussually shrivel down though, realizing their own personal ignorance.
Oh my, I don't know why people don't stop and think a bit before they speak.
Yes, a bit silly. But I can see someone saying it because someone has said something simliar to them that was of that "type." (ethnicity, race, culture, whatever.)

I know I've been told right out by various people who were of the people they were speaking about, "Island people don't ride horses." "Black guys don't play hockey." "Asians don't do blood donation." I always think it is silly when the person says it is making WAY too many decisions for others based on themselves - but I can see people taking it as gosple from an expert.

You know it's kind of funny, but I could totally see my DH making the statement that black people don't play paint ball.

He's black. And of course, he would be joking. Even if statistically, it's more of a "white guy" thing. Around here it is, anyway.

The woman had absolutely no need to ask that. It would have had no bearing on the decision making process. It unpersoned (ya, I know, not a word) your DS's dad, by taking the personal question of, "Would Jamaal (as an individual) enjoy something like that?" to basically "do any of them like that?"

Ignorant! Some people should just keep their mouths shut.

My ex friend was like that (take anything a POC said as gospel from an expert). The whole idea that a person of color is a spokesperson/educator for their race really gets me going. "but why would L say this if it werent true???" he would say after being confronted about a really LAME comment that he made.
"ummm maybe L shouldn't be making generalizations and you should be old and smart enough to know that?" I'd have to say this really slowly.

not me... I'm not suprised by this at all.

imo, albeit infuriating, I believe when things like this are uttered in public, it is a great opportunity to have dialogue, rather than coming up with a quick and cutting response to shut the offender up. nothing is learned when this happens, except that the offender learns to be more covert with his/her sentiments and never truly gets why a statment like this is racist.

I can understand the initial shock and almost the knee jerk reaction to backhand the offender. I think I would have then followed up by saying, "wow, who just asked that question about Black people and paintball, bc I'm not sure where you're coming from..." Disclaimer: I know it's always easier to think of what to say after the fact, so I don't want to discount your aweful expereince of what it's like to be in the moment while some racist comment just invaded the air.

Actually, it is Vermonters who don't ski. I tell flatlanders that we groom your trails, and, no, we don't ski. We will be hunting with muzzle loaders at that time and running the CAT to give you the right texture on those nice, safe trails at Killington.

But...hockey? Are you sure? I, uh, follow (to say the least) hockey and really love a rough pond hockey match, especially when there's weak ice around the beaver dam to check someone into. And, on that note:
Check out this info from Nova Scotia: http://www.birthplaceofhockey.com/ho...egr-integr.htm
And I know you would want Anson Carter on your team: http://www.canada.com/topics/sports/...0-60bde6971825
And then, going back a bit in history, here's the bio of Willie O'Ree: http://www.legendsofhockey.net:8080/...p?player=13894 and a photo: http://missioncreep.com/mw/oree.html

I've got more. Lots more. I know an awful lot of Canadians of Color who have no problem with their puck control. And they whoop the czechs, too. So there.

Not that this has a flying you-know-what to do with the idiot described in the OP.

WTH? How is someone even stupid enough to ask that?!

Sure "they" play paintball! Ann Coulter saw it on an episode of "Seinfeld."

I don't have anything good to add... I just hope your "WHAT?" made them think about something like that for the future!

Yeah, um, I don't care if that's a reason. It's a crap reason if I've ever seen one, and it beautifully demonstrates that person's ignorance and racism. Seriously.

Because in your limited exposure you see XYZ, then that applies to everything in the world.

It's freaking Long Island. Paintball isn't real big here, for any race.
