Horrible back pain in early pg

My back isn't the best really... it's a tad weak at times when it's stressed - but I just found out we are expecting someone little in June and it is hurting SO badly all the time except when I lay down (then I feel great). I don't take medication of any sort but it almost seems that the muscles are pulling it into a reverse curve or something as the regular curve seen there isn't so curvy, it looks almost just straight up and down at the lowest part of my back.

When I was pg with my first it was actually the back pain that prompted me to see my Dr. (back when I saw my Dr. for stuff like that ) and he gave me a Rx for pain meds but did a blood test in case I was pg (and I was). This time however it is worse.

SO... can you assure me - is this a sign of something not so good pg wise or is it just my body doing it's own thing? B/c of the non-curve I'm guessing it's not pg-related but I could use the assurance/thoughts all the same.

I've done stretching, warm water/shower/bath and I do Ashtanga yoga too. That went fine both days this week though I just skipped the binding positions as my back wasn't so thrilled about those.

Thanks for any help or thoughts you can offer.

I think it would be a great idea to consider seeing a chiropractor, they can do amazing things. If you iusnerstand that every nerve goes through your spine then it can effect so many issues of the body...including muscle pain.

Also, it is great you are doing yoga...perhaps you can ask your techer for specific postures that would help with your pain.

Congrats on your pregnancy!

Not a professional ...

Did your back pain go away on its own after the first trimester or so? Do you often have back pain associated with menstrual cramps? I was diagnosed with a "tipped" uterus early in my first pregnancy.

My mw suggested that because it was tipped to the back rather than the front, as the uterus was gaining weight (baby, fluid, placenta), it put increased pressure on my back, causing pain. After the first couple of months, the uterus "popped" out of my pelvis and the back pain went away.

Hope you're able to find some relief!

I second the suggestion for a chiropractor. Also, it doesn't sound likely from what you described, but watch out for a kidney infection. Lower back pain can be a symptom of that. Congrats on the pregnancy!
