How do I do ankle cuffs on shoes?

So I love the cute little shoe patterns that have been done lately, but wonder if I could make a change to it. My little guy still finds a way to get them off just playing, so I thought about making them more like kids slippers and putting an ankle cuff around them. I'm trying to picture how it's done, because it must just be something with the heel part, but I'm not there yet. It wouldn't necessarily have to come all the way together in the front, but pretty close. I just need a way to keep these shoes on better.

Do you mean the stretchy material? You can buy the "cuff" like what is on the bottom of kids PJs and just sew it onto your shoes. Or you could recycle it off from a piece of clothing that you no longer use.
