anyone want to tell me about doula training?

I'm thinking that, in about a million years when I finish grad school, I would like to become a doula. Anyone have general info on the process (or good suggestions for links--I've already poked around on the DONA web site)?

Check out Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators (ALACE). I really enjoyed my training with them!

I did both DONA and ALACE. I liked them both, but I preferred ALACE. It was intense and advanced and awesome. I loved it. www.alace.org.

I used CBI by distance learning. If I'd been in the USA, I would've gone with ALACE.

I did training with Seattle Midwifery School. I'm not sure where you're from, but people fly from all over the world to train with Penny Simkin. I believe they also do doula training at the Farm, which would be awesome imho

Do it do it!!! There needs to be more doulas out there!

I did training in Annapolis, MD

I actually found a trainer on DONA. Her name is Brenda Lane and she is AWESOME! If you need her email address I would be happy to give it to you.

I've done both DONA and ALACE and strongly prefer ALACE. It's more in depth, less medical centered, uses midwifery care and home birth as the norm, and is more mom/baby focussed, in my opinion.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for the info, ladies! This is a ways down the road for me but I'm really excited at the idea and I wanted to figure out how involved it is to be trained for it. (Not that I don't love school.)

I just started the certification process with DONA, as I am interested in being a postpartum doula. I have two small children, and don't have the around-the-clock childcare set up for being a birth doula. As far as I can tell, ALACE doesn't offer a specific postpartum doula training.
