Losing mucus plug?

I never noticed the loss of my mucus plug with my first DD. I remember asking about it during the last weeks, and at my 39 week appt I was 4 cm and the MW said the plug was "long gone" and gave me the impression that it was long gone *because* I was 4 cm.

My question is, can you still have a mucus plug being dialated to 4 cm?

I ask because I am dialated to 4 already and haven't noticed a loss of mucus plug, except just now when I used the bathroom there was a lot of extra mucus (clear) when I wiped. Twice. Sorry if TMI? Could that be my plug (or part of it)?

With my first baby, I lost my musuc plug in stages the day before I went into labor. It was pink and brown twinged mucus. I currently have a lot of clear mucus, but nothing colored. Just my experience!

I don't think clear mucus is part of the mucus plug. I think it's usually more bloody.

I never lose my plug - I'll notice a little blood tinged mucous once I'm in active labor at about 6cm. But I don't ever see anything beyond the regular cervical mucous prior to labor.

My wife's mucus plug came out last week, during a few trips to the bathroom during a day at work. She was about 36.5 weeks at the time. The whole plug was mucus, no blood. Oh, she was 2cm dilated at the time. I'm not sure if the plug would last to 4cm.

With dd, I lost my plug two weeks before labor. It looked like I blew my nose in my underwear. There was some in the toilet and when I wiped, too. I had a bloody show 3 days before labor started.

You likley wont have the whole thing, but your cervix continues to produce mucus, even after the "plug" is gone. So you will still have mucus.
