Our ped dentist is recommending an apparatus that goes on the inside of the upper teeth, on the roof of the mouth, to push out the upper teeth. I had one as a child, and can see where it could be beneficial to my DS given his mouth structure. However, I am wondering a few things:
Would getting this for DS perhaps make it so he won't need braces in the future? (I still needed braces; not sure what, if anything, it did for me back then.)
Does it do something the braces are incapable of doing?
I like our dentist to a point, but I don't trust him 100%- I won't blindly follow his advice in case it is just bill padding. My having had one of these quadrahelixes way back in the 70s actually makes me wonder that there isn't some better way of doing things nowadays. Also the fact that googling quadrahelix brings up next to nothing. Either I am way off on spelling, or this is a technique from the dark ages. Our insurance covers exactly zero for anything even resembling orthidonture. I don't want to be laying out over $750 for something that isn't beneficial/truly needed.
Any advice and guidance much appreciated Mamas!
