i need a quick and easy curtain idea....

ok so we have moved our bedrooms to the attic months ago. i spent time on DS's room..made curtains and everything. of course he co-sleeps with us so it makes a nice guest bedroom:

but we all sleep in our room and new babe is on the way SOON.....i love making curtains, but at 37w preg my brain will not allow me to do all the hem calculations and measuring:. believe me i have tried!! sat in front of the spread out fabric for a long time with my measuring tape...i know, kinda sad. so....i refuse to buy any curtains, i always have... too much $$ for something so simple. BUT i can't get myself to sew them. the windows are also very small attic window....i think something like 23X45in. so any ideas out there. maybe a fabric that won't fray so all i have to do is fold over one end and sew for the rod? i'll take ANYTHING! we have pull down shades on them, so we have something, but the room is so unfinished looking. TIA

Congrats on the baby!

Jo Anne fabrics has iron-one seam tape. get the 1/2 " size. Just cut curtains to length, and iron the tape on.

For a 23x45 window, you need one piece of sheer fabric long enough to go from the top of the window to the floor, plus 2" for hems. This will be about 2 yards. There will be lots of choices at Joannes.

If you want to be complicated, hang a wider curtain rod (40") over the window, and get two pieces 45" x yards. this will make the window look wider. (or one piece 60" x 2 yards)

In a pinch, use a stapler :-)

They also have little rings with clips, you need one pack of 12.

oh my gosh!! i completely forgot about the ring clips!!!! that's like no work at all!! that may be my option for now....at least until my brain and energy come back! i may go check that out today! THANKS!

oh....can you believe we do not have a joanne's here!? we do 40 minutes away.....we have a local fabric store, it's nice but no good deals. we have a target, and tj max, a lowes, and homedepot....of course walmart(which we don't go to)...but no joannes!

Depending on the width of the window, you can use a flat bedsheet. Just slide the bar through the top seam and boom, you're done. If you can get up the energy to trim and sew up the bottom, you're doing really well!

Silk flower/foliage garland to go across the top.

Wide ribbon, strings of beads or old ties hanging down vertically to make an interesting valance.

Attach fabric to your shade with spray adhesive to dress it up.
Stencil a design on the shade with paint.
Do a collage on the shade with oragami paper.

Take a piece of board, cardboard or styrofoam and cover it with fabric (glue, staple) to attach to the top of the window.

Put a ring on each side and just drape a long piece of fabric through them for a scarf valance.

Is the idea to cover the window or just have something to dress it up? If its just something to dress it up, the absolute easiest idea I've done id to get two decorative hooks (for lack of a better word, mine are heart shaped, with a straight metal piece at the bottom that you pound into the wall) and drape fabric from the bottom of the window, up across the top, pouffing out a bit, and down the other side.

You could buy a throw and then either use the clips or just the top over to make a hem for the rail. We did this for a door curtain, it came out quite well with a fringe along the top end where we had hemmed it.

Having now done a bit of web browsing, these are actually called either scarf holders or swag holders, sconces would also work for the same purpose. Mine came from the local hardware store

For very small windows, I have used tea towels in a nice pattern or sham pillow cases with the ring clips to attach them to the rod. Already hemmed and if you find shams that match your bedding, it looks really pulled together.

I recently moved into a new place with no curtains. I had all random fabrics and they were driving loony, so I finally bought some nice clearance fabric to make them all the same. (Partially inspired by my in-laws coming to stay for a visit!) And then...disaster! I pulled out my sewing machine and it was broken! So, having already measured and cut a curtain for every window in my house, I was determined to get those suckers up there! So...I used duct tape to hold the seams! It worked great! No one can tell, from the inside or the outside, and they have been sturdy and hanging great for the last 4 months! Hahaha! So... thats the story of my duct tape curtains!

cut with pinking shears , nice finish, no sew

I saw on the Today show that it's stylish to have your curtains be so long they hit the floor, and for them to be hung almost to the ceiling. So if you didn't want to bother cutting a piece of fabric or something, you could just do the iron -on hem thing and not worry about measuring very much at all.

Or you could be like me and have curtains hanging in your living room that are not hemmed, measured, or ironed : And they have cat hair all over them.

This is what I was going to say. If you already have a decorative type rod, you can swag it across the rod instead of the hooks as well.
