Any way to salvage a very discolored Maya wrap?

My Maya wrap started out a lovely sage green color. After DS decided he was too big for it, it was laid in a spot where i forgot about it for a good while :, and unfortunately it got quite a bit of sun exposure. The color is now a pea-soup shade with yucky yellowish splotches. It really looks quite gross. Now we have a new baby coming and I LOVED my Maya, so I want to use it again. Is there a good way to dye the woven fabric? I was thinking I could overdye it with a darker green and make it a hunter or emerald shade. Will the open weave of the fabric be an issue with dye? I have tie-dyed baby clothes before, but only with a very basic kit.

Help!

I'm all for RIT dyeing it and just remembering to wash it by hand. Open weave shouldn't be a problem....

I'm not sure about dyeing but I wanted to make sure you know about a possible mayawrap recall

hopefully your wrap isn't at risk and you dye it and it comes out beautifully!

Yes, I've checked it and its not part of the suspect type.
Can I remove all of the color with the RIT color remover and redye it in another color, say, purple?

You can use the RIT color remover to lighten a bit but it will not take out all the color.

You could then overdye it but not with RIT dye. The stuff is pretty worthless and a huge hassle/headache down the road.
Use the fiber reactive dye like you did with the tie-dye kit. Most better art supply stores(aka not joans or michaels) carry a small selection of the Jacquard brand MX dye. Or you could purchase some from Dharma trading Co. or Prochemical and Dye.

B/C you will not get all the base color of green out it will affect the final result of the purple which may have a slight brown result. Though maybe not too bad depending on how light the base shade is. Blue over the green could give you a pretty sea green maybe a bit more to the blue spectrum.

I suggest using the Low-water immersion method.

thanks for the great advice! Do I need to take the metal sling rings off before working with it, ie will the dye react with the metal to cause staining or such?
I've got such a lust for a light lavender sling, but just can't afford to buy onenew.. was hoping to be able to redye this one, but I'm thinking now that i will try to do the color remover and then overdye with blue, to make the sea-green.

The rings won't react so no worries there.
