Does peer pressure induce labor?

Tell us all about your newborn stuff! You've got us all primed to think about, talk about, BE about babies and none of us have ours yet! You have a captive audience, mama! BRING ON THE BABY BABBLE!

Well, I have things I want to know about your baby that I can't ask you because you haven't had them. Like:

--What size clothes actually FIT on your baby (nothing really properly fits Isaac. Newborn size is almost comically huge, Preemie size fits his weight but is short for his height).

--I've never had a boy before. Am I EVER going to get to a point where it doesn't produce a whole load of pee-covered laundry to change one lousy stinkin diaper? I try to keep it covered up, but you know, you have to clean the teeny peeny eventually, and as soon as I uncover it to clean...there goes the hose. And I am glad I swiped some sposies from the hospital (yeah, I said it) because as soon as I change the diaper, he registers his displeasure by crapping in it, then I have to start all over again. There is no way I'd want to be doing this much diaper laundry right after my surgery.

--How much sleep are yours getting? Seems like Isaac sleeps a lot, even for a newborn, but I am surely not complaining about the sleep that allows me to get.

And about the mamas:
--Did your weird pregnancy cravings/aversions etc subside right away? I didn't even realize I was having an aversion to Mexican food until the baby came (we used to eat Mexican a lot) and now it's all I want to eat all the time. A lot of my smell issues have really subsided too, thank goodness. I no longer have to cringe if my DH eats anything with garlic in it.

--This sweating. I did not sweat like this postpartum with DD. Of course, I also didn't lose weight like this postpartum with DD, so there's a tradeoff. I gained 21 lbs and have already lost 15 without doing anything at all. I gained 40 with DD, and pretty much kept all 40 for a long, long time.

--How much real help and how much "help" are you getting from your friends/families? I find I get a lot of offers of "help" from family and friends...basically amounting to wanting to come over and hold the baby, but not so much real help.

--And, of course, older sibling adjustment, which is somewhat harder for everyone here than I'd hoped.

--For those who will be taking their babies to doctors, I want to know how much you're going. My doctor is really on my nerves now with wanting us to come back constantly for weight/bilirubin checks. The last two bili tests were fine, and I am sick of trucking my butt to the doctor's and sick of the heel sticks. He's fine now, and I'd like to just stay home and enjoy him. I remember the pedis I was taking DD to when she was born were the same with the constant weight checks.

See, we have a lot to talk about. Get going, girls!

Hmm, no boy here yet and no new baby so I can't discuss sibling adjustment.

I did sweat tons though after DD was born and every night I would stack the bed with 4 or 5 towels and just take the top one off when it got too disgustingly wet. That lasted about 2 weeks if I recall before finally tapering off.

Glad to hear Isaac's bili levels are good and that he's sleeping well. Sleep is a blessing.

As for clothing - no advice there either as DD was big and didn't fit into any NB clothes.

OMG LOL I really needed to read that list! hehehehehe thank you so much for the reality check. Baby can stay in as long as baby wants because that brings up closer to daddy being home. I rather have one month alone then two! Goodness knows I do not think I will be getting any real help from friends and no family is coming to help either. Just me and the kids, and clearly lots of diapers! LOL

I'd like to get to 37 weeks--so just 6 more days, but any time after that, I'll be happy to join you in baby land!

I do remember the sweating. Did you have lots of swelling when you were pregnant? IIRC, the sweating was worst when I had the most swelling...the body is just getting rid of all the extra fluids. Could be because of IV fluids given with the c-section too.

I don't remember exactly when the boy quit being a fountain, but I want to say 2 or 3 months. Sorry. We invested a LOT of water proof pads, it was easier to chuck a load of those in the washer than to have to strip the sheets off the bed or clean the carpet (we don't use changing tables). I never could get quick enough at covering him before he soaked everything, he'd start the very second I unfastened the diaper. Of course, just about as soon as you get past that, they discover that they can grab themselves and you have to try to diaper around the hand.

About going to the ped constantly-- can you ask about getting a home health care nurse? I'd have lost my mind trying to get in for as many weight checks as they wanted on ds (he was 4 weeks early and it took a bit before he started gaining consistently). Of course having to get presentable enough to have a visitor every couple days was no fun either, but better than having to load up the car and go somewhere.

I can't WAIT to be talking real baby stuff instead of just theoretical!
