Hibiclens

I ordered some hibiclens from a birth supply co. I got it because it said it *was* hibiclens, not another brand/kind, like some places. I just got it and it's exidine. I would not have paid twice as much if I would have known I did not *actually* order hibiclens (even though that's what's on the description and order sheet).

Can I still use this for GBS and a douche? Or do I have to order another $9 bottle and hope it's the real thing?

Hibiclens is just a brand name for Chlorhexidine - so as long as that's whats in your bottle you can use it for a douche. Just check the percentage of active ingredients in it so that you can follow whatever protocol your using. Other than that - if its a soap based chlorhexidine, you may have a reaction.. that's the only thing I can think of that would make getting a different bottle necessary.

Will rinsing with hibiclens during labor help to keep gbs from transmitting? I am positive, but it's not colonized vaginally. My ob is pressuring me to get antibiotics becaase she said it could migrate to my vagina during labor?

How did they test you + if not vaginally? If from urine, I thought that was only a problem b/c that would signal high vaginal colonization? I am using garlic, acidophilus, and vitamin C. The last 2 weeks, I am going to use Echinacea and do a hibiclens light douch during labor if my water isn't broken. The most important thing is to boost your immune system and NO internal exams unless it's an emergency (cord prolapse, etc.), and certainly no stripping membranes/AROM.

The did a test both anally (sp?) and vaginally.

I thought GBS was absolutely normal in your anal tract?

They said that they are worried about it "spilling" over. Seemed a bit strange to me?

So take a tylenol so you don't get a headache?

I found hibiclens at Walgreens.
It was about the same price you paid... if you're not comfortable using whatever it is that you have, you can try looking there.

Yup to finding it at Walgreens. There is some good info about using it for GBS+ I can find for you if nobody posts it before me...

I saw it at my local pharmacy in 4 and 8 ounce bottles.
