I think they will be getting bears but I haven't quite decided.

For DD I'm also making one of these

There's a list of make at home toys in the toys forum with loads of great ideas. I'm not going to read it again till I've finished my current projects

One Christmas I made flannel pyjamas for all of my nieces and nephews. It wasn't difficult and it was a lot of fun.

I have a 2yo and a 4yo....I'm planning on sewing some capes for them to play in...probably with some pretty/sparkly/fun fabric. They both love to run around the house with blankets knotted up to make a cape, and pretend to fly, but knotting a blanket is annoying and comes undone frequently. I have to hunt down a cape pattern or make it up myself, but I'm sure it will be an easy project, and well appreciated.

I've used this tutorial before and found it pretty easy.

Thank you for this fantastic suggestion! I just made two matching fleece hats for my dp and ds. I used the link you gave, with directions...except I made mine the long tuke-style hats. They look great. Good idea, and it only took two hours!

Thanks for the great ideas.

I was thinking of making doll clothes for my nieces. Nothing too time consuming- Maybe just a dress/bloomers/cape/hat set for thier babies. A 16" pattern should fit something that they would have. DD is getting a waldorf doll with clothes and cradle and DS is getting a barn and a teddy!

Here is a list of little gifts I've made for small children with pictures and the pattern sources, some of which are free. There are little knitted hats and fruit, balls, dolls, and animals.

I make PJ's for my nieces, super easy.

I remember making these stuff pigs when I was younger using a McCall's pattern. They were simple too.

I bought my son a backpack this weekend made by a local mama. It's sort of like a drawstring bag, with a flap and shoulder straps. Very cool, and he's played with it nonstop since he got it.

I wouldn't know where to look for instructions though, sorry. But it's an idea if you're feeling adventurous.
