BF attitudes in NZ

Hi, our family is planning to spend Christmas break in New Zealand and will be traveling all over. I will be BFing my 12 month old still and wondering what the laws and attitudes are like down there. Am I likely to run into trouble, or is NIP widely accepted?

Hi, you shouldn't have a problem at all. There are no laws either way. Very acceptable to be bfing at 12mths here including in public. I have bf in cafe's and seen women bfing sitting on seats in the malls etc - yes you might still get the occasioanl odd look (from what I hear on local message boards, although I never noticed any myself lol), but I'd be very surprised if you had anyone make rude comments etc.

Have a great trip!

NZ is pretty crunchy; I imagine you'll run into fewer nasty looks than you would in, say, America or France. But no guarantees! I remember a few years back, there was a poll on a night-time issuesy show about BF. It was about 70-30 in favour of NIP; I was surprised at the time to see so many people against it. But that may have been five or more years ago now... no, I don't watch a lot of TV.

Anyway, if *I* see you BFing your baby I'll give you a big smile!
