I'm starting a BF support group!

So I live in a town in east Arkansas without much BF support. I've contacted the local WIC office and I've been talking with their (awesome) Peer Breastfeeding Counselor and she encouraged me to start a support group. I'm so very excited about this, I feel reasonably qualified to support and inform women about breastfeeding. HOWEVER, I would love it if I could get some extra resources that so I could learn all that I can, and so that I can make a hand out of great websites for the ladies that attend the meetings.

So far I have:

MDC (duh)
007b.com
arkansasbreastfeedingcoalition.com
LLL.com

But I would love it if I could add to this list. We don't have a LLL here yet, but the word on the street is that a leader will be moving here soon, and once that happens I plan on joining and then working on becoming a leader. I've never had a group, or been to a group, but if any of you have I would love to know what you liked and disliked.

TIA!

What a great idea! I went to a BF support group at my hospital until my baby was 7 months old - it really helped me to keep going early on and it was great to see so many role models with older babies.

One thing that kept me coming back was that they had a scale where I could weigh my baby. If you have a baby scale or know where people can go to get their baby weighed, I think that would be very helpful - especially to nervous first time moms.

Oh the scale is a GREAT idea! I bet my friend at the WIC office will either hook me up with one, or at least let me send ladies there. Our WIC office is full of the nicest employees, and they only have one peer bf counselor ( I am soooo hoping that another position will come along so I can try and get it) and she tries so hard to have breastfeeding classes and such. Our region just isn't that great for the 'natural types'. They have this nice room full of literature and bumper stickers (yeah, our hybrid is rockin' the " Breastfeeding : the best investment" sticker) and cool posters with babies nursing and it just seems like formula suffocates everything here. Granted, I'm a young mama (21), I don't know that much and I sure don't have ANY local mom friends, but I have NEVER seen a woman NIP here. I want this to change. My good friend who doesn't have children is a big ole lactivist, but to my knowledge we are the only ones! I actually got an email from a LLL leader after I originally posted this thread, and now I am really hoping to get a group rolling in the near future.

Sorry, its late, I've had a hard day and sometimes I just ramble!

Also consider La Leche League's Breastfeeding Resource Center. You will get almost all of the information you need to start up a group, a copy of The Womanly Art, and updates for a year. It's well worth the start-up cost.
