No way I can nurse twins. *sigh* - Page 2

To add to the celebrities who nursed twins, I know of Marcia Cross and Tammy Lynn Michaels. I think there are more, but those 2 come to mind first.

Tell her if a creaky old one-boobied lady like me can try, she can try : Of course it can be done. Yes it's hard, but everything with twins is four times as hard. Even if you do end up supplementing, like I did, anytime you minimize the amount of formula fed it's .

I second the recommendation for Karen Gromada's web site & book, "Mothering Multiples." She needs some help (church ladies?) to take care of the non-baby-feeding activities.

She should have three main priorities when the babes are born: 1. Love the babies. 2. Nurse the babies. 3. Nurse the babies.

All else can fly out the window

What about the "climbing the montain" position?

I've only had singletons, but with both my girls had to use this position from birth to about 2 months because of overactive letdown.

I never nursed just one, but talking to the women in my twins group (100% nursing moms, BTW) who have older toddlers has confirmed that 2 really are harder than 1.

BUT, that said: I pumped. I supplemented. For a while I pumped and bottle fed milk as well as supplemented. I had the joys of up all night pumping PLUS raw nipples PLUS mixing formula. It's doable. Even if it isn't a picture perfect "they latched on at once and everything was great" situation it is doable.

It has to be easier than fixing and washing all those bottles all the time, right?
The one thing that I have read that is the most hardest part in the first week or so is positioning the babies without help and the babies being on different feeding patterns (one want to nurse at this hour, when the other baby doesn't want to nurse at the same time). Other than that, most of the breastfeeding books I've read say that you can even nurse triplets easily!
You might want to get your pregnant friend the La Leche League book "Mothering Multiples". It has TONS of information on breastfeeding twins and triplets. It might make her less nervous about nursing two babies instead of just one.
