Prayers please

I had my baby on 10/21/07 at 12:12 pm in the birth center, all natural, in the water. Lana Akiko weighed in at 9 lbs 13 oz, 22 inches long. We went home shortly after 4 pm, and had a very short babymoon. We live in San Diego and right now there are some pretty intense fires going on, so we packed bags this morning before my midwife appointment in case we needed to evacuate. On our way back from our appointment we got a call from a friend that lives in the military housing we live in, saying there's a mandatory evacuation of the area, so we stopped at home, got our bags and tried to look for a place to go. We decided against going to the Red Cross shelters, because the last thing we wanted a newborn exposed to was a bunch of sick people. We finally found a hotel in La Mesa, so that's where dh, dd#1, dd#2, MIL and I are staying. We had to leave our kitty at home because we couldn't fit her in the car (and even if we had this hotel wouldn't allow her inside, it would be a $1000 fine if we were caught.) So if y'all could send some prayers, positive thoughts, or just some vibes our way, I hope our housing is safe (for my kitty's sake, we have renter's insurance, everything else can be replaced), and that these fires go away soon.

My thoughts are with you mama. If you feel like a drive, my house is open in the Phoenix area. Hopefully things will be better tomorrow.

Congratulations on your baby girl! Try to take it easy.

Bless your heart! Praying for your safe return home and that you find comfort in your hotel room in the meantime. Congrats on your baby's birth!

First off, Congratulations on your new baby!! Beautiful name! So glad she's finally here!

Oh, mama, how stressful right on top of a new baby!! I was out there during some big fires about 4 years ago, and we were worried about evacuating, too. I never see the news so had no idea about these. We still have lots of family in the area - Vista, Poway, Descanso. I'm so glad you have been able to find a place to go, and pray your home and kitty will be safe! Hopefully you can a bit of babymooning in there, and stay in away from the smoke.

Keep us posted!!

Yes, I'm in SoCal too so I can imagine how tough this must be for you with a newborn! Praying your kitty and home are safe. We are in Santa CLarita and so far it's still a dozen miles from us but things change so fast! It actually stopped me from giong into labor last night as my doula can't get to us since the roads are closed.....fortunately my midwife is north of us and that road is open, but now i'm hardly progressing....
over 300,000 San Diegans evacuated so I'm glad you actually found a place to stay as I have friends there who've had to travel far. (In fact our neighbors just up and went to Phoenix as they left last night when we had a voluntary evac and then the house they were staying at had flames next door......)
So Sorry you have to deal with this during your babymoon, but it will definitely be a memorable one to tell Lana about later....

Lana and I haven't left the hotel room since we got here, but dh has gone out and gotten necessities we forgot last night and today. He's getting our brakes checked right now because the brake lights have been going on and off (dh said the brake fluid needed to be replaced.) He has MIL and Emily with him, so I've been able to get a little bit of rest today.

OMG, well first of all congrats!

And second, I hope you and your family are safe. Yuma is only 3h away if you would like to come here, please pm me. We have a spare room with a double bed.

My dh's aunt and uncle's house burned down in Ramona y'day.

Glad you two are able to stay safe and sound and get some rest! I am also so glad you posted about this. I dug around long enough last night to find out that my aunt and uncle (and two cousins) are in the evacuation area in Poway. So far my dad is safe in Descanso, and I haven't heard of anything affecting my grandparents in Vista. It's been hard to find exact maps so I can locate some of these places that I'm not super familiar with. But I'm so glad to at least KNOW what's going on! We never watch the news so I have to wait for "news alert" emails or to think of checking, and despite all I've set up, I still can miss big stuff like this!

Praying for all of you out there!!

Good news! We can go home! After check out time today we found out that we could go back (so we're spending the night in the hotel, otherwise we would have been charged anyways.)

Hooray! I was worried for you guys today when I heard that there were fires at Camp Pendleton (though I don't remember if I know for sure that's where you are!). Glad all is well and you can go home!!
