Love it.

Quote:
Then we have the We Circumcised Our Boys So They Look The Same As Their Father camp. Sure, it's not fair for me to pick on people less fortunate in the brains department than the rest of us, but when they are subjecting innocent children to genital mutilation I'm going in swinging. I'm not going to bother asking the hard question "why do you need them to look like their father?", because you cannot reason with something that has not come from reason but from mindlessness.

I ask the So They Look The Same As Their Father camp, why stop there? If you want them to look the same as their father, dye their hair, have them undergo cosmetic surgery and if the father has any tattoos or facial hair, sort that out too.
I also love the part at the end about not circumcising for foreskin tightness and using a cream instead!

disclaimer: please refrain from speaking about the small religious part of this article-- plenty of other things to discuss!

I liked it as well - except for the bit at the end about using steroid creams on a non-retractile 7 year old. Perfectly normal for a 7 year old not to retract, and it certainly doesn't constitute 'phimosis'.

Still - all in all, a very good article! Thanks for sharing!

very true-- i didnt realize the boy was 7. that would be a downfall of the article then, but still very good!

I enjoyed it! The frankness was refreshing. I take it the author is from Australia. Wouldn't it be wonderful to see an article like that written by an American and published int he NYTimes? Well, a girl can dream, can't she!

I could see how it could be viewed like that. I think this is the kind of article that is a rally the troops and sometimes really gets the younger crowd going.

I think a lot of us just get tired of the 'camps' she talks about-- that part really hit home with me!

Yeah - I don't think it was meant to be a research paper or an article that you use to convince your friend to leave their children intact. Seems more like a "do you realize how rediculous this all is?" type of article. Which is why I found it refreshing.

I put the article on my blog on myspace. I'm trying to sway my sil away from circumcising. Maybe this will help. Thanks for sharing!

The comments are pretty bad.

One of the comments on the first page nearly made me sick. Circumcision is good for manliness: a bit of pain when young will toughen them up when they're older. Gag.
