Two and a Half Men

HA!

I was just watching Two and a Half Men, and Alan and his new girlfriend Naomi were sitting in a coffee shop and she was breastfeeding her baby. It was a great, normal scene, and nobody treated her differently until she started arguing with him.

It was cute - at one point, they're fighting and everyone stops and stares at her. She says "What? You've never seen a yelling woman with a bare boob before??"

I just saw it too and was coming to post LOL
I love them showing NIP without a cover AND showing boob!!! I could see the opening of her nursing bra! And the baby was teething- she said "ouch don't bite me" or whatever and kept on trucking.
On the Two and a Half Men before this one there was another BFing momma, too. And the baby was older (like 6+ months it looked like)
This is my new favorite show

The same show in a rerun last week made a dig at bottlefeeding, the guy had been acting dumb and blamed it on not being bf. I like their writers!

It's great to have that on a mainstream show!

Don't ask me where, but I read somewhere that in their divorce papers Denise Richards (Sheen's ex) said she had been bf'ing their first child, and that when Sheen found out she had stopped he got very angry, and said that he thought that formula would cause their daughter to get brain damange and cause her to become mentally retarded. She also said he flipped out when she took the baby to get vax'd.

So sounds like Charlie Sheen belongs around here as far as his parenting beliefs go!

Wow. That offends me, and I was a BF baby. My DH and I both have IQ's in the 160's (I was BF, he was bottlefed), so I personally can't see a huge difference in IQ's of BF and bottlefed babies. I know the science says its so, but I just don't see it in day-to-day life. I mean, its not like I can look at my kids I teach and say which ones were BF'd and which ones were FF'd. And for them to say that being dumb is only because they are bottlefed? Wow. I know that breast is best, and believe me, I am a HUGE lactivist, but for some reason that comment just really offends me.
Ban me if you want, but I just had to get that off my chest.

I donot have a direct quote of the comment, but that was the gist of it. Sorry it offends, but I think anything that puts a positive spin on bf helps.

I read the same thing somewhere.

You're misunderstanding the point, and i'm betting that DR misrepresented exactly what CS said to her. Its not that bf babies are smart and ff babies are stupid. But its likely that had a ff baby received bm, that ff baby's IQ would be higher than what it is. Its all relative. Whatever the potential IQ for any given child, it is likely reduced by not receiving human milk. I suppose ten IQ points dont much matter if your IQ is 160, but can matter VERY much if those points determine whether someone meets the requirment for "mildly mentally retarded" or "of normal intelligence". I dont think IQ is the end all be all of a person's potential, and in the end may not mean much at all. But to dismiss the idea of bm having a positive impact on IQ and/or brain development because you know some smart ff people is strange.

ITA. It's like saying me saying "my mom smoked while pregnant and I don't have asthma...so it's OK" Doesn't offend me when someone says smoking and pregnancy isn't exactly ideal either.
FTR- I gave up BFing my DD at a couple months so this view is coming from a former FFing mom herself

They played a different re-run here. It was one with Denise Richards as Charlie's ex who was recently divorced and had a nursling. It was pretty cute.

Cool! I usually don't watch that show. Perhaps I should give it chance.

I think it's a really cute show - light, funny, and I love the brotherly relationship between Charlie and Alan. And their mother - oy vey. HYSTERICAL.

The show would be terrible if it weren't for the great line delivery by the characters.

I laughed pretty loud about that yelling woman with a bare boob comment.

I thought the IQ joke was funny, and recognized it as a joke. When I first opened this thread I was reminded of Charlie Sheen's "retarded" comment and the rest of his silly rambling email, and when I told my pro-BF dh about it, he said that if the baby ended up "retarded" it would probably be more attributed to genes rather than ffing. Totally un-pc, but I still get a chuckle out of it.
