Genital sore during pregnancy

I wasn't sure were to post this, but I guess this would be the best board for my question. I am 35wks pg and just noticed a sore on my genitals (the outside lip). I have been happily married for 8 years and he is the only partner I have ever had. It is purple in color and not real large-less than 1cm. I have no idea what it might be. Do I have to see a dr about it? I am not seeing any dr at the moment. I would hate to have to pay a lot of $$ if it isn't too big of a concern.

Could it be a varicose vein? Or is it an open sore? Sorry...it sounds stressful. I hope it heals up soon!

And my preference would in general be a homebirth midwife over an OB to take a look at it...but I've homebirthed my two children, so that's where I'm coming from.

Thanks for your response. I was starting to think it might be, but I'm still unsure because it is raised like a mole.

I think I will call a midwife to look at it and see what she says.

Could be a genital wart. Have you been tested for herpes or HPV?

No, I've never been tested, but all the pics I've seen of the warts and herpes and such don't look anything like what I saw. It's more like a blood blister.

Sounds like an inflamed varicose vein, but given the huge risks of an initial outbreak of an STD to a baby at birth I would get it looked at and be tested just in case. Many women have been blindsided by a loving husband who stepped out on them during pregnancy. Two of my close friends whom I would never have thought it of their partners had this happen to them.

Keep in mind those things can lay dormant for YEARS. They often crop up in pregnancy due to the extra stress on your body.

It could be a ingrown hair. They are pretty common especially if you shave but even if you dont they come up. They are red/purple and feel hardwhen you mash on them. Sometimes they get really sore sometimes they are just there and dont bother you at all.
