Science Daily: Researchers Knock Out HIV

ScienceDaily (Oct. 21, 2007) — With the latest advances in treatment, doctors have discovered that they can successfully neutralise the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The so-called ‘combination therapy’ prevents HIV from mutating and spreading, allowing patients to rebuild their immune system to the same levels as the rest of the population.

...Combination therapy prevents the virus from forming and mutating in human beings. When the virus is halted in its progress, the number of healthy CD4+T cells begins to rise and patients, who would otherwise die from HIV, can now survive. The immune system is rejuvenated and is apparently able to normalise itself, providing that the combination therapy is maintained. The moment the immune system begins to improve, the HIV-infected patient can no longer be said to be suffering from an HIV infection or disease, already declining in strength.

Findings from the study are published in the medical journal The Lancet - Vol. 370, Issue 9585, 4 August 2007, Pages 407-413

But prevention is always going to better than a cure. Especially in countries with non-existent health care systems or expensive drugs and no money to build them, not to mention the difficulties of ensuring compliance with a complicated treatment regimen.

I am 100% opposed to circ for all reasons, of course, but let's recognize that the circ-promoters, however wrong-headed, are trying to do something to ensure that people don't get HIV - because once they do, it's a death sentence given the economic issues they face. :

: Unfortunately. Even though this new research is beyond amazing, the pro circs can still continue with the AIDS/HIV propaganda since it is "prevention." Because apparently men don't know how to use condoms and practices safer sex. :

Unfortunately, from the likes of Halperin and co. I don't think their MO is really HIV/AIDS prevention. Especially when they've been presented with data that suggests that circumcising men under the auspice of HIV prevention might lead to an increase of unprotected sex and subsequently higher infections. And especially since they pick and choose the countries and data to support their argument.

This news article is good though. It would be wonderful to say that we've managed to stop HIV.

So essentially, the circumcised controlled group from Halperin's study will get a cover up by giving them this new drug to revive their immune system SO they can say, "See my freshly circumcised men ARE protected from the AIDS/HIV virus BECAUSE they're circumcised!!! (They'll hide that they've been given the medication) My study is truly "proven"!":

Of course it'll all a manipulated lie.

They're STILL carriers right? The virus is still in the body and they can still pass it on to others no mater what the t-count is. The drug does not kill the virus just raises the t-count. Unless I'm mistaken.

Its still good news for those who are infected.

It's still one more thing to use to convince parents in the US to not circumcise for the HIV reason, and condoms are a much less invasive prevention that protect infinitely better than circumcision supposedly does - even in poorer countries.

love and peace.

A new cocktail

As an HIV pos. male I will say I am on the study meds for this and it is being called a cure. However just because it blocks the virus better than the old meds it is no cure. I am still positive and always will be like the old meds you have to take them for life its not like a antibiotic tha you stop taking when your STD clears up. its a life long thing or the virus takes over again .and even while on the meds i still have spikes in my viral load.. so please lets not call it a cure thats like calling a cat a dog.. i mean it is a good advancement but its not foolproof and its not a cure.

to MDC puppy_almighty! Thank you that information! Very interesting.

I'm excited that this new combo drug is effective enough to extend the life and improve the quality of an HIV+ person. Its still good news to those suffering with AIDS.
