I never thought much about circumcision before I came to this board. I was a nanny for a family a year ago and the little boy was not circ'ed and I wondered why. I have seen the light ! My nephew is now two and I remember when he was born they put a clear ring around his foreskin on each side that I'm assuming pinched off circulation and just caused it to fall off, which it did a week or so later. But it was gross! And I just remember thinking how crappy it mush feel to have that on there for so long! Poor little guy . Is this standard procedure now?

The Plastibell.

I don't know that it's THE standard procedure, but it's a popular one.

It sounds like the plastibell technique. I'm not sure how often it is done but it looks horrible. http://www.cirp.org/library/procedure/plastibell/

Ugh, sounds like the plastibell. One of my friends who had her baby boy circ'ed bragged about how much less invasive this method was than the Gomco clamp. UGH. :

It still amazes me that parents have this done to their tiny, innocent babies. :

I agree. The first time I saw a circumcision video, I literally felt faint. Why can't my husband looks that the same pictures and understand???? Sometimes I'm so frustrated that men (in general, there are exceptions) can't see the same thing we do and feel the same way about protecting our sons from such mutilation.

ITA. There are so many men who see the videos and say, "oh, well, its for the best."
I have to admit- I was lucky. My dh saw about ten seconds of the video and said, "Okay, fine, we won't do it."

:Puke I made it clear to my DH. It was not happening. Period. Over my f'ing dead body and before that happened I'd kill him first.

Some day this will be illegal, right? It's got to be. Some day.

OK so possibly a dumb question because I refuse to look at the pictures... but with this type of circ would it be possible for a mom to see that and be horrified and then a few hours later change her mind and take it off? Not that I would say this would happen often, just curious.
