OK so possibly a dumb question because I refuse to look at the pictures... but with this type of circ would it be possible for a mom to see that and be horrified and then a few hours later change her mind and take it off? Not that I would say this would happen often, just curious.

No because there is cutting involved. They have to make a dorsal slit in the foreskin. Then the bell is placed and a ligature tied around the foreskin. After it sits for a period of time then they use scissors or a scalpel to cut the remaining foreskin away that was in front of the ligature. Then the bell is broken off and the ring remains for about a week until it falls off. :

This is what my nephew had done to him - only he was one of those "rare" ones that the skin somehow started growing over the ring, encasing it.

And he had to have MORE of his penis cut off.

Even after seeing her son suffer for almost a month, she still opted to have her next son circumcised. :

I guess we can still be grateful that the vast majority of our society condemns female circumcision, right?

Every time I see it, it just makes my heart jump...it's got to be the most terrifying experience imaginable for a baby. : I would cut off my own arm if I could end circumcision once and for all.
