Presidental Candidates and BF support?

Anyone know any of the candidates stand point on BF support and NIP Laws?

Mitt Romney is no friend to lactivists. While governor of Massachusetts, he gutted the state's public health policy committee and stacked it with pro-formula-industry shills, to guarantee that formula-sample discharge bags wouldn't be banned from Massachusetts hospitals.

Aside from this story, which is well-known only in breastfeeding advocacy circles, I know of no discussion re. breastfeeding from any of the candidates.

I believe Hillary breastfed chelsea (dunno for how long).

I dunno about the rest but I know that jonathan edwards really pro c-sections.

he used to practice personal injury law, and a big part of his cases were c-sections not performed "soon enough"

I've gone to see Obama at three different rallys. Two out of the three times I nursed in the front row (yes, I'm a huge supporter so I got there early for the best seats! It's good, though, he remembered me the second time!)

The second time I was there nursing, there was a woman sitting next to me who was wearing a sling and nursing her 6 week old. Obama, about 10 feet in front of us, smiled and waved. I don't know his official stance, but it was kinda cool that he acknowledged it.

Eventually he's going to think I go just to lift my shirt.

I googled 'Hillary Clinton breastfeeding' and found a couple sites claiming that Hillary AND Tipper Gore both breastfed, so I guess the Dems are ahead at this point!

I also found out that Carly Simon BF as well, so I'm off to get back in touch with her music with a newfound admiration!

I tried to research this but there is little info out there. I am thinking of emailing all of their campaigns and asking them.

Laura Bush breastfed her twins. I think that's really cool.

Yeah John Edwards and the c-sec thing. I could and would never vote for him b/c of that. I really do love Ron Paul but he is an OB... sooo I dont know if I can do that. LOL

What's with John Edwards and the "C-Section Thing"? I can't vote for him because of other reasons, but I'd like to hear this.

Apparently, Hillary was really supportive of at least one of her employees breastfeeding.

http://www.hillaryclinton.com/blog/print/?id=5517

She also breastfed herself. Not sure for how long.

Her website (hillary's) says she supports extending the FMLA to more people, and proposes child care credits for SAHP.

Edwards isn't my top choice but I'm just wondering how we can assume that he's pro c-section?

I had an emergency c-section with DS when he was in distress. It turned out that his cord was wrapped around his body 4 times and his heart rate was dropping in the 50s and staying there. With DD, I had a very uneventful, successful VBAC and would like a home birth with the next one.

I'll be the first to denounce c-sections, but I do acknowledge that there are situations where they are necessary. If he is representing these women it means that their babies were injured during delivery. This could have been a situation that could have been prevented. i don't think representing injured babies says that he supports c-sections all around.

Just my 2 cents.

Doctors getting sued for not performing c-sections "soon enough" is a major reason for the shockingly high rate of unnecessary c-sections. And Edwards' answer to the question about unnecessary c-sections shows that he does not take their effect on children and mothers seriously enough.

Just because a lawyer defends something in court doesn't mean they really believe in it. How many lawyers defend murderers or child molesters? That's not really a fair way to judge his position on issues, IMO.

John Edwards has proposed universal health care coverage, affordable child care, and changing FMLA to provide 8 weeks of paid family and medical leave.
