How long until he can do it on his own?

We've known from day 1 our 10wk old was going to be a thumb sucker, I was and so was DH. Just in the last few days he's really figured out that he wants his thumb in his mouth BAD! But he's still to little to know he has to keep it there. He gets so frustrated and screams:. I feel so bad for him, sometimes I hold his little hand up for him so he can suck, but I can only do it for so long. He is refusing paci's. He's been so fussy and I know that's why.

Does anyone know how long until he can suck it on his own?

my babe is almost 11 weeks, and is getting there. my friend said around 3 months is when her kiddos got the hang of it. I always hoped for a thumbsucke(I did) and none of my other kiddos did it. lol

i hoped for a thumb sucker too, it was the best thing in the world for me- so comforting!

ruby is 12 weeks old and she just started to suck her thumb about 2 weeks ago. she still sometimes can't get it right, or forgets how to do it.... hopefully soon it will all come together! it is about the cutest thing ever!!! i was a thumb sucker so i am totally fine with it....

I don't want DD2 to do it but it would be nice if she figured it out a bit better. She's a sucker. Within 5 minutes of her birth she stuck her two middle fingers (just like I did as a kid) in and dozed off for a nap. When she sucks...she really sucks! You can hear the suction type sound when she does it. So far though she has more luck stabbing herself in her eye than getting it to her mouth.

My 11 week old found his hands last week and is constantly putting them in his mouth now.

my dd was about 4m old when she found her thumb. For a couple weeks she was mouthing her hand and one day she found her thumb and that was it. Now w/ dd2, she sucks on her hand and a few times has gotten a thumb or finger but that's it. I hope your baby figures it out soon. Sounds like he'll be a lot happier!! So frustrating
