i don't think this posted or maybe i'm losing my mind here... i can't seem to find the thread i thought i wrote the other day on this.......:

is anyone planning on using a diaper service? the one here has cloth diapers, unbleached...its like $20 a week for 70 dipes. i'd buy a few covers and voila! diapers...i won't have to lug them to the washing machines at the resort i live at and won't have to buy dipes. it seems to be cheaper and environmentally and sanity-wise, better for me.

I was thinking about a service, but then I got all nutty and started accumulating cloth diapers and cleaning supplies. My husband is all for washing them at home, at least initially. My mom offered to give us diaper service for a couple months as a gift, but I asked if we could convert that into a couple housecleanings instead.

If you don't have your own laundry facilities and someone to help with the chore, a diaper service would definitely make sense!!

We are using a diaper service for a couple months. I made some super cute diaper covers, and bought some wool ones.

After that I want to wash at home and use the bum genius one-size diapers.

Good luck with the diaper service... what are you going to do for wipes?

We had a service for the first 3 or 4 months with DD1. It was really nice to just put the dipes outside the front door once a week and then get nice new fresh ones ready to go We're not doing it this time because I too got nutty and bought a BUNCH of newborn stuff. But I loved it last time!

We're not going to use one just because when I was a baby, I got a chemical burn from the supposedly "gentle" detergents they used. I figure why risk it. I'll just wash 'em myself.

Sounds like a great option for you, Lisbeth!

yes, us too! We'll be using a service for the first 4-8 weeks, however long it takes until the little one can fit into size small fuzzibunz (so we don't have to buy the newborn size). This one might be a bigger baby than William, but he wasn't eight pounds until 6-ish weeks. We used the service until he was about a year, just because I was intimidated by 1) choosing which type of diaper to use and 2) dealing with them (cleaning/caring for them) on our own... but now I love it and it isn't as scary as I had thought at first.
