I totally did not intend on Tehran's birth being like this. Last Saturday, my husband, our 3 oldest children & myself went swimming at my best friend's house. I had been having minor & varied contractions all day long, and we thought that it may be soothing for me to go swim & also take advantage of Merilee's oversized hot tub. About an hour into swimming my contractions became a little more intense, but not as intense as my contractions were with the previous children (I dunno, maybe I'm just used to it now, lol) so I decided to continue swimming for awhile as my husband & children were occupied in the sandbox. I was leaning over the side of the pool catching my breath, and began to feel some intense pressure down below. I called Merilee over to help me from the pool, telling her that I had to go to to bathroom. I went into use the bathroom (I don't even know if I even did) and the pressure just got even more intense, and I even more in pain. Merilee suggested that I was in real labor (well of course I was, lol) and called my experienced homebirth pal Shauna (who had been at the birth of my last child, is a doula, training to be a midwife, & homebirth mom to 6). I expected only Shauna to be at the birth of my child, and to call one of the midwives only if needed, but by now there were Merilee, My husband, 3 of my children, Shauna, and all 3 of Merilee's children. I was in the tub, Clive (my husband) sitting on the toilet behind me, Shauna to my side, Merilee at the foot of the tub, and 6 heads poking in the doorway. I was dialated to 8 when Shauna arrived, and was pushing within 30 minutes. Tehran was born just a little over 3 1/2 hours after we had arrived at Merilee's that day. She weighed 6lbs 10oz and was 20 in long. Needless to say Merilee pampered us for the rest of the day before we left for home shortly before bed time. I thank God for friends like Merilee & Shauna to share in this blessed event.
