Full moon comment

I was chatting this morning with my friend that I lift with at the gym. I was telling her we really needed to do a lower body lifting day because the more squats the better..lol.

Her mom is a surgeon at our local hospital. She made some off hand comment about her mom having to work tomorrow night. I said, that is odd, I thought she never works nights?? She said that on full moon nights they double stock L&D and surgery as babies tend to come in excess.

The full moon is officially full at 6:51 PM Eastern time. I'm hoping I can get a nap in this morning just in case I'm up tonight... Oh. Another thing. The moon is going to appear very large. Here's a clip explaining why.

Quote:
BIG FULL MOON: Tonight's full Moon is the biggest full Moon of 2007. It's no illusion. Some full Moons are genuinely larger than others and this one is a whopper. Why? Read the answer below.

The Moon's orbit is an ellipse with one side 30,000 miles closer to Earth than the other. The full Moon of Oct. 25-26 is located on the near side, making it appear as much as 14% bigger and 30% brighter than lesser full Moons we've seen earlier in 2007.

In the language of astronomy, the two ends of the Moon's orbit are called "apogee" and "perigee." Apogee is the farthest point, perigee the nearest: diagram. This week's full Moon is a "perigee Moon" with extra-high "perigean tides."

The Moon is 14% bigger, but can you actually tell the difference? It's not so easy. There are no rulers floating in the sky to measure lunar diameters. A fun experiment: Take a friend outside Thursday night and ask if they notice anything unusual about the Moon. Explain perigee after they answer.
Here is a link to a picture illustrating the difference in appearance. http://spaceweather.com/swpod2007/23...igeeapogee.jpg

Wow! I'd rather not be stuffed into an extra-full maternity ward but it would be pretty cool to have my baby during an extra-big full moon!

I found this too

Oct. 26, 12:52 a.m. EDT - The Full Hunter's Moon. With the leaves falling and the deer fattened, it is time to hunt. Since the fields have been reaped, hunters can ride over the stubble, and can more easily see the fox, also other animals that have come out to glean and can be caught for a thanksgiving banquet after the harvest. The Moon will also be at perigee later this day, at 7:00 a.m., at a distance of 221,676 miles from Earth. Very high tides can be expected from the coincidence of perigee with full Moon.

It's tonight, just after midnight for Eastern time, so technically early Friday morning.

Oh geez, stupid me, I got my numerical dates wrong, lol. Got the days of the week right, though! You're right, it's tonight just after midnight (early Friday morning) not Friday night.

Hmmm....my in-laws are coming to visit today. My MIL would love nothing more than to have the baby around durring their visit (we won't be able to have a visit with them 'til after the holidays for various reasons--its absolute torture for her to know she'll have to wait that long to meet her first grandbaby). Maybe her wishes + the moon will conspire to get my labor going....
I wonder if the fact that the moon is a paragee moon will have some sort of extra effect??

Hmm...it's pouring rain and cloudy here. I wonder if I'll even be able to see the darn thing. I'd like to, though. The BIG moon sounds cool.
We have a friend who swears we are going to have this baby today or tomorrow, due to the full moon. We'll see!

I think I'll go out and dance in the rain under the light of the full moon.

I told DH that and he thinks I have officially gotten to crunchy

And it makes you, officially, the crazy pregnant lady in your neighborhood...lol

My DH has been teasing me for 2 weeks now about this upcoming full moon. I told him that I could deliver tonight or wait for the next full moon. There is a large window of opportunity. It would be nice to meet my baby as soon as possible, I think the house is ready, but my midwife is exhausted. She has been to two delivery's already in the last 24 hours. She needs a rest.

How does the full moon thing really work? I know it does, but it is weird. I just wish I knew why it works. It is like an "old wives tale", but it actually happens to increase the amount of babies born. I think that is cool and crazy.

Lindsey: you've gotta give birth soon with all that you've got going on AND The BIG full moon!

I wanna see the BIG full moon too. If it's early Friday morning (EST), it'll still be night on Thursday here.

My BIL's baby is due on the 29th, maybe his will come with this full moon.

Oh Oh Oh I wanna have my baby!!!

I've been having contractions, like OMG that hurts contractions all week already and I'm just SO tired of being pregnant. I wonder if I mention the full moon to DH that I'll jinx myself....

A full moon baby would be great for me! We all know how cranky and impatient I'm getting.

And, coincidentally, we're studying the moon in our little homeschool this week. AND, my husband predicted today as the day our son would be born. (Though, we're in EST, so that means it won't be full until tomorrow, no?)
