My 6 YO DS is red and hurting. Any advice?

Yes, he is intact. When he pulled down his foreskin, I could see that he is red, a little swollen, and had a little discharge.

I realized when he was telling me and showing me, that he has only been taking showers for several months now. Before, he was taking a nice long bath 2x week-but no more due to eczema.

I am going to put him in the bath for a long soak. Anything else you'd suggest?

Many thanks,
mp

It sounds like regular, normal separation.

The last time he was checked by his doc(who does not circ. his own DSs), I was told that he already was seperated, and during the years and mos. prior to this, DS never expressed having any pain, and I never witnessed what I am seeing today.

Yeast infection, perhaps?

Put baking soda in the bath. I'd wait a few days, while giving him baking soda baths and see if it gets better (if it doesn't then I'd start thinking maybe infection). Although it wouldn't hurt to give him probiotics and put plain yogurt on his penis ,incase it is yeast.

I would put him in a nice warm bath. If that doesn't help I'd call the doctor.

You can gently wash the penis, too. Just use a soft cloth, and I'd set up a bowl of warm water with a bit of tree tea oil in the water. I hope he heals quickly! Btw - this is not ABnormal for a boy. Intact or not, they can get little infections, based on how well they are cleaning themselves, how clean their hands are, how often they are touching themselves, etc. VERY normal.

Some tips can be found here: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732

I hope he feels better soon.

I am curious tho. How did the Dr. know he was already seperated without retracting him?

Papai-possibly-though he takes probiotics in addition to organic yogurt everyday.

Sheacoby-baking soda! That's what I remember my sis doing with my nephew one time-and it cleared things up.

He took a bath, and will take one again tomorrow.....if he is still hurting, I will add the baking soda to the bath. I am a fanatic about handwashing, and he is a fanatic about always being dressed-so he really doesn't have a lot of access to expose himself to bad germs.

Ahh...the doc visit....well, it was actually by the doc asking me what my observations were, and me answering his questions. He never touched my DS(I wouldn't allow that-ever), and I knew from lurking here yrs ago, and having my nephew be intact, pretty much what I was and wasn't supposed to do.

But you know....time has passed, he's not such a little guy anymore(well, he is...but you know what I mean), and I haven't been quite as vigilant about his hygiene as I probably should be. He started insisting on showers early in the summer, and I just spaced off that he should probably be having a good soak every now and then.

Thanks for the link!

Many thanks to all,
mp
