Nice magazine... @@

I went with my sister today to her prenatal appt and was sifting through the magazines in the waiting room. Found an April 2007 one of Babytalk and one of the articles said Newborn health, so I decided to go to it just to see if it was anything on circumcision. Well sure enough.....

CIRCUMCISION...
is the removal of the foreskin covering the end of the penis. Pain meds are used for comfort, it's a safe, routine procedure.

You'll probably be asked before you deliver whether you want this operation if you have a boy. THE BEST TIME TO CIRCUMCISE IS JUST AFTER BIRTH (it may be riskier later in life. It generally occurs on the 2nd or 3rd day, or a bit later for religious reasons.

Then it tells how to take care of the wound! Then.... Circumcision takes only 7-10 days to fully heal but if the redness continues or the sore becomes crusty or oozes a cloudy liquid, call the Dr, since it could be infected.

That's the only thing on circumcision.... NO "it's not necessary" NO "No medical organization recommends it" Nothing!!! So sad that this stupid magazine was sitting in an OB clinic! My sister and I were pissed.....so what I did was stole it, hopefully it'll spare some little boy.

Sadly that book is a popular book at our pedi's office but of course they did good with the nursing pic but the circ suggestion is bad advice -why do ppl think it's riskier for older kids and older ppl

False. This is circumcised thinking. The foreskin includes the end of the penis.

False, its not safe.
Routine to me means mechanical, robotlike, unconscious, thoughtless, careless, unloving, flakey etc.

"comfort" here is a euphenism.

This is completely unethical of course.

This is one way the system perpetuates circ. Parents may not ever see the normal penis so they don't realise the vast difference. The longer circ is delayed, the less likely it will happen.

(it may be riskier later in life.) False.

Just after birth is the worst time for circ.

grrr...i wrote to them before (about some crap about nursing twins) and they actually published it. though since this was from an old issue, i guess the time has passed on that one...

i found a bit about circ in some mag at the ER once- ripped it out and threw it out.

now that we have a new printer that actually works i am going to print a bunch of intact/no circ stuff to leave everywhere i go.
