Is the "measurement" really a good indicator

My DD is 34 weeks along with her 2nd child. Her MW measured her and says she is measuring at 36 weeks. This is the second time she measured two weeks ahead of her EDD. My question is: is this in any way a good indicator of when she will actually give birth?

BTW-She is pretty sure about her LMP.

That is still within normal range for her dates, it really doesn't mean a thing.

Best of luck to her!

I agree. It doesn't really even register as noteworthy to me unless it is at least a 3 cm difference. It is very subjective and all babies have growth spurts. Also, I'm much less concerned about a woman who is measuring big than one who is measuring small.

Best wishes to her! What she needs is to know that it is perfectly normal and not get into the "is my baby too big" thing.

+/- 2 cm is normal. WIth my first I measured small all along. My midwife said her guess was a very small baby, no bigger than 6 pounds. She was 7-12. My 2nd was a UC but I had my husband measure once. I measured 4 weeks small. She was 8-1. Both were normal gestation (40 weeks +/- 2 weeks).

I think it is more of a "hey maybe I only have 4 weeks to go instead of 6 weeks thing" vs her thinking the baby is too big.

Hey, we all know how that is right?

Why measure the belly then?

Can I ask a subquestion to this? I measured about 2 cm's ahead at 21 weeks, but I'm thinking since I'm a bigger woman, would my fat offset that measurement? Makes sense to me, but I wanted to see if I"m just making that up.
