Swelling...more on one side?

Hi,

I have already been to the doctor and been assured that nothing is wrong, but I wanted to check in and see if any of you have experienced swelling that is worse on one side than the other? My right ankle/foot is more swollen than the left, and it's freaking me out.

It's worse when I lay on my right side or sit or stand. Left side-laying seems to help it a bit. But it's so odd.

The Dr. says it is from the baby putting pressure on an artery? vein? not sure which, but it's making it so that the fluid can't get back out as well on that side. I had 4 lactated ringers on Monday, and I am wondering if that is causing a bit of it, too. I was monitored all day for AWFUL BH contractions, but no labor. They gave me the 4 lr's to help stop the contractions.

Anyway, just wondering if any of you have had this. Dr. checked and made sure it was nothing serious, but it looks so strange.

Thanks!

I had that for the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy with DD. Both sides were swollen but my right leg and foot were terribly swollen to the point where I couldn't wear shoes and barely wear socks. The MWs were only concerned if I started to develop any other pre-e signs (headache, dizziness etc) and I didn't and it went away after DD was born. It was still weird and frustrating though.

Mine is more on the left, but yes, I'm totally more swollen on one side (it's mostly just my feet) than on the other. With Pixie it was equal. Very strange looking, I agree.

The same thing happened to me last night. I take my socks off at some point after dinner to check swelling, took off my left and thought "not bad", took off my right and thought "elephant ankle". I wonder if it has to do with favouring one leg over another when standing (?). Put your feet up and get DH to fetch you an ice pack. And a cup of tea...and a good book...

Yes, my right is more swollen than my left. Apparently, in most women, the uterus has a natural tendency to twist to the right, and with a baby in there, it's putting pressure on the vein that leads to the leg and causes fluid to accumulate in the right foot.

Oh my gosh, that is so interesting. Thank you guys. I feel better knowing I am not alone.

Yes, that can totally happen!

I just started swelling this week for the first time with this pregnancy and my right foot is more swollen than the left. I've had to consciously shift my body and keep that foot up more.

The other day it was my left foot that was more swollen and yesterday it was my right. Not super noticeable, but I could certainly tell. DH could too when he looked at my feet. I think it was like that sometimes in my other pg when I had quite a bit of swelling. I didn't think much of it and my dr didn't say anything either.
