Another evil cc company caution

Yesterday morning October 25, I logged on to credit card company X’s website to pay my bill due on Sunday, October 28.

I put in the due date as printed on the statement, October 28. The website refused the payment, giving a message that the payment must be on a business day.

I tried to pay it using October 25 but the website refused again, giving a message that payments must be scheduled one business day in the future.

No problem, I used Friday, October 26 as the payment date and it was accepted.

The point of my rambling is, had I not started on Thursday to pay a bill due on Sunday, I would have had to schedule the payment one day late (the next business day) and therefore would have incurred a late fee.

Sneaky and I am sure not an accident.

My Bank of America (was MBNA) credit card was always like that, but now they have a new "express pay" option. You have to choose it specially, but it doesn't cost extra. My Capital One credit card allows same day payments if submitted before 3pm EST. However, my Capital One credit card always shifts around my payment due date by one day if it falls on a weekend. I usually schedule my payments as soon as I get my bill, for the day before the payment due date. That way I know I won't miss it

Caneel,
I wonder what would happen if you tried to pay by phone? There may be a fee for paying by phone but at least you wouldn't have the late charges.

Thats actually pretty typical and they like to charge a fee any where from $5-15 to make same day payments at a lot of places.

On the site for my HSBC card, you used to be able to make a payment that would be credited either the same day, or the next day (business day or not). Then they instituted the Express Pay option, so you're charged $15 if you need to make that next-day payment. It's just one more reason I love my Citibank cards. I've had such good experiences with them all around. When you make a payment online, it's credited that same day, no matter what day it is, or what time of day it is. I don't know if it's the kind of card I have or what, but their service has been very good in several questionable instances where another CC company would have (and did, actually) take the opportunity to stick it to me!

I pay mine through my bank & not at the cc site. They are credited the next day.
