Spinoff: Savings % vs. Housing % - Page 2

mortgate: 11%
savings (retirement/long term): 25%

Our housing plus utilities is 23.5% of our income.

Our savings/investments is 25% each month, and almost always more (25% is the minimum).

This is from our net income.

Our housing costs right now are only about 12% of DH's take home pay...actually, probably a little less because I rounded down a bit. I'm not sure how much of his gross pay goes into his retirement funds; he hasn't given me his pay stubs lately. But he has like, three separate funds and I think he only pays into one of them; the other two are still funded by his employer. As far as savings go, I can't really give any sort of percentage because before we moved, we weren't able to save ANYTHING...every last penny went to paying bills, gas, and groceries. And now that we're not paying so much for housing, extra money will be going first towards paying down debt, though I still plan on sticking whatever I can into savings.

Mortgage is 36%.
Savings is 12%.

Gulp. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I didn't know these percentages until I figured it out right now. We can do better with the savings. Sigh.

Mortgage 17%
Savings 8%

We really need to up our savings a little but our living expenses have been so high lately that we are just starting to recover from that..And Christmas is just around the corner.
